BY FAR MY WORST EXPERIENCE IN SPAIN!! DO NOT DO IT!!

The San Sebastián Surf Camp is a program that from the outside, seems to have an inclusive, fun, and friendly environment, however, the reality is, is that this program is RIDDLED with problems, all of which come from the staff. During my 3-day stay at the S. Seb. SC me and my friends experienced a myriad of problems from the staff which included racist comments from staff, creepy male staff members, and a complete lack of organization, professionalism, cleanliness, and sanitation. The staff members are highly irresponsible and its very evident that the entire program lacks structure and good management. The staff members do NOT care about the well-being and comfort of their guests which is shown by their nonchalant and care-free attitudes even towards the most serious of problems. For example, one of my friends had to go to the hospital to pick a prescription for stomach problems and she asked one of the staff members if he could take her there, which he agreed to do. Instead of actually taking her to the hospital, he drops her off, BY HERSELF, on a random corner without telling her where she was or how to get back and still made her pay the transportation fee. Also, on our second day, my entire group got sick and we were all vomiting and had diarrhea. When the staff found out, their first reaction was to laugh at us and assume we were drunk (none of us had any alcohol that day) and they continued to diminish the severity of the situation, by telling us we were fine and didnt need to see a doctor, until they found out that one of their own co-workers was also sick with the same symptoms. Even after this, the staff continued to be very unhelpful and callous toward us and extremely offended by suggesting that the food or the lack of thoroughly cleaned dishes (guests are required to wash their own dishes and dry them with dingy-looking towels) may have been the cause. Also, most days there is insufficient food to feed all of the guests so many of us went hungry at night. There was actually one night where I put a second piece of chicken on my plate and a staff member told me to put it back so that everyone could eat. There are also two pets that they failed to mention on their booking website (a cat and a dog) that are allowed to roam around freely and the cat often times gets into peoples things and lays on their beds. This caused me to have a lot of problems with my asthma during my stay because of my allergies to pets. In addition to this, facilities arent cleaned often (or at all). You can find several spider webs and dead bugs everywhere inside of the facilities, especially in the bathrooms and in the larger Dormland room there is a constant smell of mildew, especially when it rained outside. In addition to the filthy indoor-facilities, the tents for camping are not equipped for rain or harsh weather. If it were to rain, the entire tent and everything inside of it would be drench, which is exactly what happened to my friends on the first night In short, San Seb SC would be the perfect place for you if you dont mind dirty facilities, being hungry at night, and juvenile staff-members who lack decorum and proper training in their structuring of daily activities and excursions. You might get cheated out of a surf lesson if the instructors decide to party and get drunk the night before, which did happened to several people who were staying there. Also, the surf lessons really arent surf lessons, just the instructors showing you basic technique and then letting you figure the rest out. The trouble you will experience from this trip is NOT WORTH YOUR MONEY OR TIME! There are far better ways to experience surfing in the San Seb area than this. DO NOT DO IT.

Do you research, don't expect to have your hand held and you'll have the best time.

Awesome location, friendly staff and totally unique experience! Stayed there for a week of beach time, delicious food and partying in Basque country. The cooks at the hostel were also crowned for the best paella in the region the weekend I was there when we attended a community event as a group. My time there was fun, relaxed and incomparable to the many hostels I have stayed at. 60 Euros per night, which includes a bed, three meals and a surf lesson is a pretty sweet deal. I don't think many people know that the surf hostel is part of the larger Stoke Travel entity which is a Europe-wide tour company for party people and budget conscious travellers, which I had used previously before I stayed there, and most of the people I spoke to at the hostel who seemed surprised by the daily routine of surf, eat and drink had no idea that the surf house was part of a larger organisation. If you're not prepared to make some of your own fun, sneak a few emergency snacks through the day and drink, I suggest you find a different place to stay! Would stay again!

    Do your research!

This surf hostel suits young travelers that are traveling on a small budget, 18-25 demographic, happy for the 70 nightly inclusive fee. Personally I was very disappointed in the overall experience, due to poor conditions and lacking facilities of the house, staff atmosphere, very basic food, and ill equipped surf lesson (note: you are dropped off at the top of a hill and have to walk 15-20 mins down (and then up again after) with your surfboard...not easy with a huge heavy learners board). The hostel also has a cat, so be warned if you have allergies. Places like Dreamsea offer a more thoughtful and higher level experience, but its all dependent on your age, budget and what youre looking for. I checked out after one night.

San Sebastián Surf Camp - Epic!

Loved every minute. Good vibes, great location, epic staff. Worth a few days or a week for sure. Nice to be tucked away from the summer beach chaos and have convienent rides to/from the camp. Possibly best bar views in the country. Well be back!!

    great people, great experience

The staff were super friendly and happy to show us a great experience, recommending local food and places to go. The food was amazing and had lots of variety, they were also happy to work around my various food allergies and supply vegan options for my friend. The surf instructors were very hands on and not only gave great beginner lessons, but also talked us through where were good spots for us to surf and how to keep the local surfers happy. If you are looking for a fun and relaxing experience, meeting new people and sharing in the local Basque culture I highly recommend this place! people complaining about the facilities and lack of organisation must have not read the part where it says on the website that this is a surf hostel..
