  ridiculous prices for average pub food

  went there with my son for dinner..was shocked by the prices ..queen street prices.This is a dated pub which serves pub food in a sleepy little beach town.$25 for a burger or pizza. so we decided on a snack ..was ordering squid rings for $16.50, the woman said that was gor 5 squid rings,i said forget and went down the road ..we ordered a chicken and lamb burger for $13 total..they were the most amazing burgers we ever had. thoroughly reommend Skillet and Fillet takeaways and take down to a table on the beachfront.

  Rooms were tidy and clean. However like the pub it could definitely use an update. No towels in room however these were quickly brought over to us. Staff friendly and polite. A compendium in the room would have been helpful to advise on local sites etc.

  Disappointing

  We would not recommend The Salty Dog Inn for accomodation. Although the apartments are quite spacious the rooms felt and smelt quite greasy. The sofa was so used and stained it was only fit for the rubbish tip. Bed sheets were stained. Carpets are old and extremely worn. Bed side drawers had used tissues inside. There was a drop of bird poo on the worktop. Dead insect on microwave, all this when we walked in for the first time! The glasses in cupboard were very dirty. TV sound was awful. On a positive note the wifi was good. No breakfast on offer at this hotel. On top of all this we left my wifes new shampoo bottle in the shower before checking out. Went back for it on the same day but it had disappeared. We were told wed get a call if it was found but no calls were forthcoming. This was our worst night in New Zealand in terms of cleanliness of accomodation. Despite all this the Staff were friendly and the food and drink at the Inn was nice enough.

  Below average for cleanliness

  The cleanliness of the room was slightly disturbing. The shower curtain looked like it hadn't been changed in about a month and had mould and goo on it, the cups looked like they had been poorly wiped out with a rag, I chose to drink tea out of my camping pot rather than use any crockery. Another family arrived at the same time and the kids were saying there was broken glass outside their door. It's a shame because it has the potential to be a really nice place if it were properly looked after. Also the double bed appeared to be two single beds pushed together. The pub seemed nice and is in a good location accessible to most things.

  Impressive Accomodation, Not Expensive

  The room sizes are very spacious and there is everything you need for your stay. It is clean and modern with comfortable beds. Very good value for what you pay and the adjacent pub serves meals at reasonable prices.
