Just average, but acceptableI stayed two nights - December 4 and 5, 2013 - in a standard room in this hotel when touring Malindi. Check in took some time; although I had made a booking by telephone a few days earlier, the check in staffer didn't seem aware and it left me feeling that if it were the high season, with almost all rooms packed, it might have turned out badly. The hotel is clean, but needs some refurbishment. The air conditioner and fridge were old and in need of replacement; to be fair, they worked rather well, but looked like they would break down anytime! The bathroom appeared to have been recently fitted with new tiles. The room has a safe deposit box. The beach is quite far from the hotel but there is a pool just outside the restaurant. The food - I had a la carte chicken and french fries - was nothing to write home about: just about average, the stuff that one would find in a typical Kenyan restaurant. Disappointingly, there was not much on offer - fish and pork had run out, alongside a litany of other excuses as to why this or that wasn't there. For instance, there wasn't mango juice, despite the area being rich in mangoes, so they only had beetroot and passion fruit juice, water melons were not ready' (whatever that meant), and so on. The breakfast was admittedly much better; consisting of the standard fare, eggs, sausages, french toast, coffee, baked beans, cornflakes and pawpaw. The staff were very friendly, helpful and courteous, but the lady at reception - on evening duty - was rather unwelcoming, and generally disengaged. Any inquiries appeared to be a real bother to her. The hotel is well located, along Lamu Road, near the Nakumatt and a host of other shopping malls, eateries, mainly Italian, and bars/ discos, e.g., the Stardust and Club 28 are just along the same road. The hotel has good transport links, the place being fairly busy. Putting all together, although it was an average experience, I would still stay here due to the cost, cleanliness, location and convenience (as a budget traveller, I attach great importance to these as opposed to a de luxe experience). It cost me Ksh 5,000 - approx. US $ 60 - per night for b-and-b; it will be higher for foreigners, (and for locals as well during the high season).

Great HotelThis is a great family hotel with various activities for the family . The walk to the beach is amazing with wonderful sculptures all the way to the beach if you choose not to walk to the beach you can choose to take the golf cart . Its a landmark hotel and one of the oldest hotels in Malindi . Its definately one of the best there .

Eden RocI know this Hotel for an long Time and was there several Times , it was called before just Eden Roc and now Sai Eden Roc Hotel . I was there in January / February this Year for 4 Weeks . This Hotel is near the Indian Ocean and when you have an Balcolny and sit there in the Evening you can here the Oceans Voice . Most of the Parts of the Hotel are renovated , only some small Places are still under Construction , the new Manager is really good . His Name is Farid , and when you have an Problem there , just call him and it will be fixed . Over the Food i could say , it was very good , and if you want to have something special , just ask the Staff and they try to help you . Anyways , the whole Staff at the Sai Eden Roc Hotel inclusive the Manager is very friendly an helpful . If you are in Malindi , just give them an Visit , even you are only want to eat or drink something .

Needs some attention. This hotel needs some attention. Everything is just too old. Right from the Hotel room's door step- A/C,furniture, toilet, the hotel buildings .....everything is just too old. The only good thing I noticed from this Hotel is the friendly environment. The hotel staff are very kind. I checked in very late and had to leave very early because I was scheduled to have a meeting at 10.00 A.M in Mombasa. The staff at the reception requested for breakfast to be prepared for me an hour before there normal time which breakfast is normally served. This was so helpful for me because I managed to take breakfast and drive to Mombasa for the meeting. If you are looking for a Hotel with lovely and kind staff, then this is the place.

Must have been great in the past!We stayed for about a week in this hotel with a group. The hotel management staff is very friendly and helpful but others need more training - some restaurant staff were OK, others had trouble with English and the housecleaning team left the balcony doors unlocked or open and the AC on. The grounds are enormous and it was nice to walk to the beach and imagine what the hotel must have been like in the past when it was in good condition. There are 3 pools but really only the one near the main building is used. Local residents also use the pool but it was empty in the evening or morning so swimming laps was possible. The room had good AC and mosquito net. The shower required holding the nob in to have water flow and the toilet smelled of sewer which was not pleasant. The safe didn't function and despite asking about it, we never had it repaired. The food for our group was plentiful, tasty and mostly on time. The hotel needs some serious renovations so would check others if you have the option. And don't think you are on the beach - it's a good 300m walk and not really good for swimming.
