    A real treasure

Three and a half years spent lovingly restoring this old konak proved well worth the while. Inside you really feel as if you have stepped back in time. The rooms reflect the history while the bathrooms are typical of those in Turkish B&Bs: small but clean and functional. We chose an upstairs room with a balcony that was lovely. The owners have displayed family heirlooms and photographs throughout. We ate two wonderful meals in the lovely garden, dinner and breakfast. All the food was homemade and delicious. They serve Manti, one of our favorite foods from the Turkish kitchen, as well as some of the best Kofte we've had. You can also get wine here, not easy in this conservative town. Every one of the owners and staff whom we met were delightful and helpful. Ali arranged our inn for our visit to Amasra a few days off. Once we ventured into the old city we saw how fortunate we were to be in the Baglar section away from it all. Many of the hotels are situated on steep streets made of stone and difficult to navigate on foot and perhaps impossible by car. We toured the old konaks in a special cart that just barely fit. Our tour guide, Onur, was a delightful young man though his English is limited. They have very good taped explanations in English and Japanese as well as at least one English speaking guide. You get the tour right by the old Camii in the Carsi section.

    Impeccable, authentic experience

The distant location from Safranbolu's old town apart, we could not have experienced a better stay in this charming Anatolian town and we even managed to score a couple of beers - something that proved to be decidedly difficult elsewhere in the environs. The breakfast was also a true thing of wonder with a selection of delicious cheeses, warm simit and incredible cherry jam and marmalade. The rooms are charming - we had the bridal suite despite no nuptials having been entered into - and the Ottoman detailings are marvellous. The couple who own the place were also wonderfully friendly.

Feel like an Ottoman Princess for a day

I am an experienced traveler and stayed in many types of accommodations from 5 star to starless hotels (no hostels). This hotel provided the most amazing and unique experience I've ever had in my life. 1. Hotel decoration takes you back to the Ottoman time, and everything is reproduced with a eye for details. 2. The City Museum which attempts to do the same is a pale copy of this hotel. 3. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful and accommodate your wishes with a smile even when they are exaggerated (I tend to be unreasonably demanding). 3. Breakfast is wonderful and authentic. I found a hot water-vessel in my bed to warm me up when I arrived at 1:30 in the morning! That's beyond "service" - that's "care".

    Perfect

Safir Konak was a perfect stay for me and for my group. The rooms were very clean, the staff was friendly and service was welcoming and perfect. As we were a group of dance, they provided us a place with music as well for us to dance. I loved Safir Konak. It is the place where I am going to stay next time I am in Safranbolu, that's for sure.

    Relaxing place

Stayed here for two nights with my wife and young children (1 and 4). The hotel looks very nice and is housed in a very nicely restored and decorated ottoman house and has a lovely garden. Staff was quite friendly and helpfull (although occasionally a tiny bit too relaxed). Our room (nr 1) was quite spacious and contained a double and two single beds. Room was also nicely decorated and clean. Bathroom was tiny (real tiny), but it uses the limited space very efficiently so I now keep thinking how stupid my big bathroom at home is. Anyway, it has a toilet, a good shower and sink, which is really impressive for roughly 1.25 x 2.00 m. Breakfast was served in the garden and was quite good, with a nice variety of cheeses, olives, bread, borek etc. The garden restaurant also serves simple but tasty food. The hotel has a few small downsides (although these probably wont spoil your fun). - the room we stayed in (nr 1) is facing the road and although it sure is not a busy road there is still some trafic at night. And since there is no airco, you do want your windows open. -sound issolation...is quite poor. And one night we could hear someone snorring and you could easily hear the people walking in the room above you. Despite the place is heary, in general it was very quiet. -breakfast (although the breakfast itself was quite good) was supposed to be served from 8.00 onwards, however at 8.00 there is no staff to be seen. The two days we stayed here the staff showed up a little over 8.00 and only then started preparing breakfast So breakfast was served at around 8.30. And that is a little bit late when your children are up before 7.00 or when you want to leave early because you have a long drive ahead of you. - Baby kot. The hotel is not really geared for children and only has one baby kot, which was allready in use when we were there. (in all fairness, i think we forgot to mention it in our booking so they did not really had the chance to arrange something). As an alternative they provided us with a baby crib, but that really was no option for a one year old. -location. The hotel is nicely located, but quite far from the Unesco part of Safranbolu. I personally did not find that a real downside, but it if you want to be in the centre of Safranbolu you should go elsewhere. To sum it all up....we had a lovely stay, and i can surely recommend this place. However, although the kids had fun playing around in the garden, it is not the perfect place to go with children.
