  Quite convenient, with very friendly staff

  The Ruhr Hotel sits in the middle of a residential area. It is easy enough to get to, an 8 taxi ride from the main station, or a 10 minute walk from the nearest U Bahn stop. Within a 10 minute walk you can get to a main street packed with restaurants and bars, so very convenient. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly during my visit. There is a good breakfast and you can buy drinks in the reception area. The hotel also has a small lift. Rooms are comfortable and spacious enough though as usual for German hotels, the bathroom and particularly the shower is very small. The wifi was not very reliable. On 4 of my 6 nights I could not get a connection using the code given at reception, either on my laptop or phone.

  Essen Techno-Classica - lovely stay!

  Was In town for the car show; this hotel is in a great location for the metro and is very clean and comfortable. The bathrooms seem brand new. The staff couldn't be more helpful, especially during the small dental emergency we suffered! The staff found us an out of hours dentist and made sure we got there safe. Would very happily stay there again!

  Very good and quiet hotel

  This is a small hotel on a residential street, far from any noise yet close to an U bahn station connecting you to either the Messe or the centre of Essen. The staff were very friendly. I would highly recommend this over any major chain as you will undoubtedly get a better night sleep. There is a restaurant round the corner- turn left out of the hotel and then right on the main road and it is a few minutes walk up on the right. It is called Karawan and serves amazingly good Arabic food. The chef is from Jordan and it competes with any of the top Lebanese in London and for a very reasonable price.

  Very Basic Hotel

  Smallest hotel room I've ever been in, cold even with radiator on, no restaurant/bar, damp patches around window frame, no carpet. I left after 1 hour - didn't bother to sleep there - found another hotel!!

  Bad Experience

  I was there for the SpielMesse on October 2019 with my dad and my little brother, and we spent four nights. First of all when we arrived there was NO ONE able to speak English. I dont know how, between gestures and my little knowledge of German, we managed doing our check-in. Finally we got into our room. The building is old, and so are the rooms and the forniture. We asked for a triple room and they gave us a double room with a double bed and a mattress literally ON THE FLOOR, with no mount at all. Lets just please skip breakfast, which was awful, basically no sweets except for yogurt, and clearly old ham and cheese. The ice on the cake was at the check out, when we arrived at the car (we parked it the first day and we just walk everyday), there was a TICKET on it. Because we couldnt park there!! Despite we showed the lady during the checking the picture of the parking spot and she was all Ja, ja, das ist gut da (=yes, yes its fine there). I wont come back at all! Luckily the mess was amazing, because otherwise this hotel would have ruined our holiday!!
