Absolute ParadiseAn absolutely magical stay at Royal Palm Villas in the most amazing room with a private balcony right in the heart of tropical Cairns. We stayed in a private room booked via Air BNB, and the host was wonderful and really helpful with all our needs. We have already booked for Christmas and this time we're bringing the family. Would be happy to recommend this apartment to both families, couples and business people for short or long term stays. Such a warm and positive experience.

Average and budget friendlyI came across Royal Palm Villas via Qantas Hotels, and at the time of booking, was one of the very few places that actually still had vacancy for the dates that I was going to be in Cairns. Unbeknownst to me, I had chosen to travel right on the tail-end of school holidays, and pretty much *everything* in Cairns was unfortunately booked out. I booked an apartment at the Royal Palm Villas, as it was the only option for me (otherwise my choices were a backpackers dorm or dropping $3,000 at the Hilton or the Pullman which was my wallet was certainly not going to let me do!). The accommodation itself is fine. The location is great - it's about a 15-20min walk into the city, or a 10-15min walk to the Esplanade, so I certainly got in my 10,000 steps each day without any issue. There is also a convenience store around the corner, as well as a bottle shop, and a couple of different restaurants which comes in handy for late-night snack runs or pizzas. The rooms also feature wifi which is essential for those travelling for business or those with kids and lots of devices. I had a 1br apartment, which was surprisingly spacious, it has a fully self-contained kitchen, full-sized fridge, a queen sized bed (which was surprisingly comfortable), a little courtyard, and a washer / dryer which was essential for washing wet / salty clothes after day trips out to the Great Barrier Reef / Fitzroy / Green island etc. (there's also a clothes rack which was a great addition for hanging out wet clothes at the end of each day). There are ceiling fans in the bedroom and living / dining area, which do a great job of keeping the place cool during the day, but there is also air conditioning if you need to get even cooler. The furniture was all cane furniture and does look quite dated. The bathroom is quite narrow, which is fine for anybody travelling solo, but for couples who share a bathroom, you'll need to negotiate your bathroom time with a game of 'Rock Scissors Paper' ;-) There is also an outdoor pool at the entrance, which is great for the days when you feel like hanging around and having a lazy day - there are also bbq facilities. The Royal Palm Villas is a satisfactory place to stay if you're just in town for a couple of days, passing through, looking for something that is budget friendly, or don't need all the fancy bells and whistles of a more modern hotel / apartment hotel. There have been some other reviews about the staff being quite rude - whilst I wouldn't necessarily disagree, my experience with them was that they were both very blunt and very direct in dealing with people. A furniture refresh in the rooms would do quite a lot to raise its profile and bring it into a more modern setting.

PleasureOld school hospitality the place is older but spotless and very well maintained, visit from Melbourne chasing the sun. This was a last minute package through Jetstar and for the cost this property is outstanding. The managers are attentive and friendly the facilities are on your door step only 2km walk to cairns central. Room was just what my wife and I needed and great weather helped. We have been to the far north before so we knew what to expect and this place was great to experience all that melbourne lacks in winter Note some properties are owned independently so I can only vouch for properties looked after by the on site managers and they are fantastic

Super rude managementThe couple that manages the building are probably some of the rudest people I have EVER met. They treat my partner and I like crap because we didnt book our stay directly through them. They ignore us when we say "hello" or "thankyou". They stand and stare at us when we are in the pool. And they completely ignore us when we ask for help. It's such a shame because we enjoyed our room, but we felt so uncomfortable due to their hostility the entire stay. People in the hospitality business should know better then to treat their guests so badly.

Budget-friendlyWe stayed at Royal Palm Villas a couple of nights. We agree that rooms require some renovation, and the one that we had wasnt exceptionally clean: the kitchen cabinet handles were sticky. Good news: air conditioning worked really well, a washing machine & a dryer included, and the cost is lower on average in Cairns.
