  Fantastic Hotel

  I stayed for three days at the Royal Exchange and I thoroughly enjoyed my time there. Warm welcome after coming in by train at 7.30pm,many people at reception. My room was great (Room1) and the whole feel of the hotel was pleasant and friendly. Wifi worked. Room service was efficient and the food excellent: the restaurant was booked out and they offered this alternative. Proactive customer service, much appreciated on my first night. Great location in town. Enjoyable breakfast. Great Service. Would definitely stay there again.

  Very very slow wifi

  Just a word of warning: the wifi in the Royal Exchange is extremely slow, only good for occasional emailing. It is not suitable for web browsing or video streaming. I also could not get it to work on a laptop, only on smartphones and tablets.

  Central location

  On the main strip of Broken Hill. The staff were all very friendly. The balcony is also very relaxing if its not too hot outside. Probably would have given 5 stars but the wifi was very flaky and though the room had Ethernet ports, they didnt work. The parking near the hotel is all time limited so you need to park a couple of blocks away. The rooms are upstairs and theres no lift so if you have mobility issues then this is not the place for you.

  Great location but in need of upgrading in some areas to earn the 4.5 stars they claim

  Great location but the hotel needs attention in many areas to be considered a boutique hotel worth 4.5 stars. The beds are comfortable and room size is generous but the bathroom is very dated with the old 70s style hairdryer attached to the wall with the vacuum hose type of fitting, which came apart when set on high and had to be held with a towel to avoid burning your hand. The toilet brush came apart, the taps are tarnished, the ceiling fan only has one setting (high) and sounds like a jet engine, and housekeeping is second rate (beds pulled up and loosely tucked in but not made properly, mini bar glasses not washed or replaced, previous guests underwear hanging in the bathroom). Apparently there's WiFi but no details are provided to guests to be able to access this facility. The staff said the only option for parking is the 4 hour street parking or unlimited parking 1km away. There's actually untimed parking in the lane directly behind the hotel but the staff didn't mention this to us. The bedside clock/radio was broken. There's a fabulous balcony for guests to use but the floor is damaged with one of the timber slats broken leaving a hole that started as a small split but got worse during our stay when guests accidentally stepped on it creating a dangerous hole that presented a major risk to cause people to fall and injure themselves. This went unresolved for the four days we stayed at the hotel and no effort was made to put safety measures in place to repair or even erect signage warning of the risk. This hotel has great potential and could be quite grand, but falls short in both the physical standard and the service level.

  Royal exchange hotel broken hill

  At first glance it looks wonderful well presented but it lacks good staff especially cleaners we stayed in 2 seperate rooms for 3 days and our rooms got cleaned only 1 of the 3 days even after we requested on the the second day that they get a freshen up. We found dust in the window frames and rubbish under the bed in my room. When we made management aware of the problems we for told that it cant be true we have first class cleaners other wise this would not be a 4 star establishment. Rude...
