Comfortable accommodation, but beware of the security charge! We had a pleasant and very comfortable stay at this hotel in February 2020, and chose the hotel primarily because of its location, and a reasonable deal. Theres a huge choice of hotels in Brisbane, and on recent past trips have stayed at the Treasury and the Stamford Plaza. Heres a summary of the positives and the negatives: The positives: 1. A clean, comfortable and spacious apartment-style suite, with fully-equipped kitchenette, washer, iron and board, a comfortable sitting room, and a spacious separate bedroom. 2. Nicely decorated public areas, and hallways sympathetically restored to reflect the history and heritage of the hotel; the suite however was verging on a bit dated. 3. An excellent location, on the corner of Albert and Elizabeth Street, one block from the Queen Street Mall and directly opposite an entrance to the Myer Centre. Its walking distance to many of Brisbanes attractions, and a short walk from Central Station (the nearest stop to the AitTran. 4. An extremely quiet room, even though our room faced directly onto busy Albert Street. 5. Decent air-con to manage Brisbanes summer heat 6. Adequate WiFi 7. USB ports for charging devices 8. A lovely pavement cafe at the entrance, serving excellent coffee. The negatives 1. The hot water, especially for showering each morning, was barely warm 2. There was no security safe in the suite 3. The $200 security fee taken at check-in, and explained by the receptionist as a fee to cover the cost of goods in the room', is shameful. Firstly, who in their right mind would pay $7.00 for a small bottle of water, when its a third of the price in the store down the street? Secondly, It took 7 days for this amount to reappear in the account used to pay for the room, with the excuse that it was the banks fault and not the hotels doing. If such a large amount is taken immediately from an account by the hotel, the hotel must put in place measures to ensure it is back in the account immediately on checkout. Modern banking as I know it certainly allows that. And thirdly, it is not standard practice for hotels to do this to this extent, as we were advised, no matter how much the establishment may try to convince you otherwise. Of the 4 other high end hotels we stayed at during our stay in Australia, both the Novotel Surfers Paradise and the Grand Chancellor had a security charge - it was only $1.00 at each of these hotels! Nobody minds that! . The other two hotels charged nothing. Its a rort, nothing else, and for that reason we would probably not stay here again, despite the positives. Thats a shame, as it really is a pleasant hotel in which to stay.

Friendly helpful staff, great room and great locationAs soon as we drove in to the parking area we were greeted. We had car trouble and they were fantastic - so helpful and did not mind that it took about 1.5 hours before the car could be parked. We got a one bedroom apartment which was great - good size rooms and very comfortable. Would we come back? We were coming up to Brisbane again so we booked for that week-end when we checked out. That is how impressed we were with the hotel.

Great escape with old world charmStayed here for a weekend away. The one bedroom suite would be great for a longer stay as well. Room was spotlessly clean, valet parking is worth it and staff could not be more helpful. Definitely will be back
