  convenient and comfortable

  I stayed here for one night while traveling through the Tohoku region. The location is perfect for travelers since it is right across the street from the west exit of Yamagata Station. Directions are unnecessary, you really can't miss it. The front desk staff was very helpful - they have English language descriptions of the hotel amenities and policies, and the staff clearly enjoys assisting international guests. The room was a typical business hotel size, but the bed was comfortable and the desk had plenty of space for me to work with. Free wi-fi and wired internet are available and both work well. I enjoyed visiting the onsen/shared bath on the top floor, it was the perfect way to wind down at the end of the day. Breakfast wasn't amazing, but it was more than adequate and you won't leave hungry! Didn't explore too much of the area around the hotel, but it is definitely sleepier than the main area on the other side of the station (that said, it's still less than 10 minutes away on foot). There is a large Max Valu supermarket nearby which is open late and has a good selection of food (only downside is that it is somewhat cacophonous in there with stereos all over the place blaring loud jingles on a loop). Overall a great stay, would definitely return here next time I'm in Yamagata!

  Spacious rooms, next to supermarket, bit far from restaurants

  Location is convenient, just need to take a escalator down and across a small square. Room was bigger than other business hotels I've stayed in. A large Maxvalu AEON supermarket is right next door, open 24hr. The restaurants etc. Are on the opposite side of the station though, will need to walk around ten minutes to get there. Breakfast was a bit disappointing, relatively small selection and food was cold etc. However the food offered is different every day, good because we stayed here multiple nights. Quite busy at any time and not too many tables; it may be difficult for a family to sit together during peak hours. There is a Doutor coffee machine for free on the ground floor. On the 14th floor there is a public bath. I don't think it's an onsen, not spring water seems like hot water only. Female bath door is locked by a password that changes daily. Only 4 showers available, unsure if you have to wait during peak hours. The hairdryer there is much worse than the one offered in the room.
