Happy with hotel in HakodateGreat hotel only a 10 minute taxi ride from Hakodate Station. Typical Japanese hotel with small rooms but very clean and with many comforts such as toiletries, free wifi in room, flat screen TV and clean nightgown every day. There is also free coffee in the lobby and a free hot bath (onsen) on the 14th floor. Located very close to Goryokaku Tower and Goeyakaku Park, this hotel is also close to a tram stop that will take you into the city around Hakodate Station. Happy with my hotel choice and would stay here again.

Decent but pricey for a business hotelI settled at the Route Inn Grantia, a business hotel chain, at its Goryokaku branch about four kilometers from the JR Hakodate station as the station branch for all business hotel chains were significantly more expensive. The branch at Goryokaku still wasn't cheap though. It was an uncomfortable (infrequent and always packed) 20 minute tram ride to get there from the JR station. The hotel was fine like most Japanese business hotel chains. Even without the holiday inflated price, Route Inns are generally more expensive than the other business hotel chains. However, other than a public bath on the top floor, there wasn't anything special and breakfast wasn't included for everyone like some of the other chains. As Goryokaku Fort is Hakodates main attraction in May (when Hokkaidos cherry blossom season is at its peak), the location ended up working out well.

Will revisit if I come to Hakodate again! The hotel itself is good, and I am impressed by the front staff. [Location] The hotel is really close to the Goryokoku Park, you can easily walk to there in 5 min. BTW, the Goryokaku Tower is a MUST-GO point if the weather is good. The view is beautiful and the exhibition of history is great. It is also in the busy area of the city. Plenty of restaurants, bars, cafes. [Facility] Room is small but clean and nice. From the hot-spring bath on 14F, the street cannot be seen. But there is massage chair zoon can look down the street. There are laundry. Free hot coffee in the lobby. Breakfast is very and delicious. [Staff] The night we arrived, we planned to see the famous night view on Hakodate Mountain. I asked the front staff how to go there. Car V.S. bus + cable, which is better? The veteran staff took a map and explain both the ways in details to me. Plus, she asked us when we will go, because from 5pm-9pm, private cars are not allowed to go up or down the mountain. After that, she suggested us to check out the live camera of cable HP, since the weather was not good that day! I really like her!

RacistThe location is good to visit goryokaku. The hotel has the usual amenities of a Japanese business hotels. Unfortunately the hotel has policies discriminating against foreigners, and treat them as suspects upon arrival.
