DisappointedI spent quite a short period of time in Akita and having left making my hotel reservation until quite late, this was one of the few options available. The hotel is about a 15 minute walk west of Akita station. I found it a little hard to find at night and the walk from the station was quite dark. First impressions were mixed. This is not a hotel that has many western visitors. I chose not to eat in the hotel at all so cannot comment on the food. The reception area is large but dated. Lockers on the right as you go in to store your shoes once you have removed them on entry. The reception staff, as expected in japan were very courteous and efficient. They spoke a little English to compensate for my poor Japanese and made me feel very welcome. Clientele is mainly japanese businessmen. My room was on the fourth floor. The price was similar to prices I was paying in Tokyo for modern efficient 3 star hotels but the room decor and size was far inferior to Tokyo. The room, whilst well equipped, was very very dated and in desperate need of redecoration. The bathroom similar, very very small even by Japanese standards. Large flat screen tv and pay tv, not that I watched any. No wifi. Self service laundry facilities available but again my stay was short so didn't use them. The quality of the room out me off using the facilities in the hotel at all, so I really just used it as a functional shower and sleep stop. On the plus side, despite being a longish walk from the station, it is very very close to the myriad of bars and restaurants just over the river crossing, which was excellent. It was good after dinner and drinks to just have a short walk back. So in summary, functional, not as clean as I expect for Japanese standards, out dated but lovely staff who are welcoming. I'm perhaps being a little harsh as it seems popular with japanese, but this is not a Japanese style hotel, rather a western style hotel that does it badly. And it certainly didn't appeal to my western taste. For a similar price, you should stay at the Richmond, closer to the station, very new, although does not have the spa.

Pleasant room and a good restaurantWe had a lovely room (with the usual squeezy bathroom) and enjoyed an excellent dinner in the hotel restaurant. The staff spoke very little English but went out of their way to communicate with friendly good humour using their limited English and our very poor Japanese. It was a little far from the station, especially at night in the snow.

Great little get away with good amenitiesI was looking for a spa resort that was close to other things but offered options for use of the onsen. We only stayed one night but we were very happy with the amenities and proximity to shops and restaurants. Our stay was over a major holiday weekend and although the hotel was extremely busy the staff went out of their way to be as accommodating as possible. We were lucky and had Kato, and English speaking employee, available to assist us. He answered all of our questions and made sure we knew everything we needed to know to make our use of the hotel, onsen, and amenities as enjoyable as possible. We even enjoyed dinner in the restaurant. Everything about our stay was great. The room was spacious given that Japanese rooms are traditionally very small. The onsen offered a lot of choices and we definitely took advantage of visiting during the night and day time. Internet connection was good, which was a plus because I had work to complete while we were staying there.

Nice hotel with natural spring spa .Bare foot hotel, you have to take off your shoes at the entrance, so all the workers also. Clean, confortable bed, good size rooms considering the average sqm in Japan. If you dont speak Japanese, you get little out even in the reception, look for Suki she can speak english. Here is all like Japan thirty years ago, when japanese was the only option.
