  brilliant views

  Looking at my other reviews I realise that I seem to dwell on breakfasts and this is partly because I think it's a pretty important part of the stay. So, straight into breakfast and it's a very good German breakfast buffet with the emphasis on German - you'll get 4 different types of wurst, for instance. Good juices, teas and a fine selection of breads. Sets you up for walking in this fantastic region. The hotel's major attraction is that it is at the top of the Rosstrappe with spectacular views across Saxon Anhalt - even beyond Quedlinburg. It's a brilliant base for walking and in the evenings it's fabulous to stroll down to the Rosstrappe and its views across to the Hexentanzplatz and the Bode valley without tripping across the moving wall of tourists that is there during the day. There is free parking and a good bus service to connect you for further walking and there is also a chair lift up and down to Thale (charge applies). The restaurant serves wonderful food - again pretty German - but there's nothing wrong with a good plateful of Bratkartoffeln after a day's hiking. There are views from the restaurant and when the weather is fine you can eat out on the terrace. They also serve lovely home baked cakes. The bedrooms are in a separate building to the restaurant and reception area - it's more modern and some of the rooms have views. The rooms are perfectly comfortable although they have only showers and no baths in the en-suite bathrooms .

  Comfortable hotel, great hospitality

  We spent a single night here and were very impressed. The hotel accommodation is very comfortable and well-appointed, the food is good and plentiful, and the reception was really friendly. The dining room is especially nice, being in the style of a traditionoal hunting lodge. There are lots of local walks and activities, cable cars up the mountains, and fabulous historical towns nearby, including Quedlinburg which is a UNESCO world heritage site. The views are absolutely fantastic. Highly recommended.

  Excellent service and location

  We had a quiet convenient room. Breakfast was excellent and so was the service in general - from reception to the lovely waitresses. The hotel is situated with a great view of the valley and in walking distance to the viewpoint of the Rosstrappe, from where you view into a mini Grand Canyon.

  Delicious goulash

  We took the "bubble" cable car up and found this place as we walked, so decided to stop for lunch. Amazing views and service (they made mochachinos for us, even when they weren't on the menu.) The child's meal had real chicken, not packaged nuggets, and my daughter loved it. The three adults had goulash and it was so tasty and filling on a cold day. The dining rooms are old fashioned but very classy, with a warm heater, but the best is the view out to the other cable car and back across Thalle. A great find.
