Perfect for relaxation and visiting the BattlefieldsWe drove here from the east coast via Melmoth and found the directions given on the website very clear and straightforward, although a SatNav with the co-ordinates set made our navigation simpler. After turning off the main road the signs to Rorke's Drift Lodge were clearly posted and repeated along the route. The dirt access road was easy to travel but attention needed to be paid to bumps and hollows. We were given a warm welcome and a comprehensive tour of our accommodation by Shane. We found our Lodge, Kubili, to be very clean, comfortable and well equipped. In addition to complementary teas, coffee, milk etc, the fridge and a wine rack also contained a thoughtful, wide selection of soft and alcoholic drinks to purchase. Toiletries, tissues and a hair dryer were provided, as was a TV with a range of channels. The owners appeared to have applied their own experiences of travelling to ensure a quality stay for their guests. They and their members of staff were friendly, considerate and helpful. The dogs and cats were lovely and extremely well behaved. Max, the larger of the dogs, accompanied and guided us on a walk around the grounds during which we saw a large herd of impala, lots of interesting birds and a mole. There was also a variety of birds around the lodges and every evening an antelope grazed amongst the horses or the grass in front of Kubili. We joined Paul for a comprehensive, informative and enjoyable day's tour of The Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift Battle fields and completed the evening with a most enjoyable meal cooked by the kitchen staff. Rorke's Drift Lodge is in a beautiful setting with rocks and hills behind and views over grass, grazing horses, trees and shrubs to the distant mountains in front. We found it a great place to chill out and relax and particularly enjoyed sitting on the deck at 5:30 am drinking tea, admiring the view, listening to the birds and being warmed by the sun. So tranquil and peaceful.

A little bit of heavenThe accommodation is beautifully appointed and presented. You are made to feel part of the family and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. The quality of the food prepared specially for you is of the highest standard. You are encouraged to explore the grounds which are teaming with bird life with stunning views. The battlefield tour is a must with the guide who has a passion for his subject and knowledge to match. If you have an interest in learning about the battle at Rorke's Drift this venue is a must. A bonus is that one of the co-owners is a gifted and renowned artist and you can view her work.

A must for visitors to Isandlwana and Rorkes DriftGet away from it all at this lodge, but still be ideally positioned for a visit to the nearby battlefields. The road to Rorkes Drift is an easy gravel road coming in from the Dundee direction. After turning right at Rorkes Drift for the 5 km track to the lodge it would be best to seek Christines advice in advance for the conditions. We were in a Qashqai, which was fine in the dry conditions. All credit to Christine and Paul for all that they have achieved at this fairly remote lodge. The accommodation has all that you could need - spacious, well fitted out and very comfortable. We certainly did not expect a television, but there was one; however, there is no WiFi, not that it bothered us at all. The breakfast and dinner, ordered in advance, were very good, but you could self cater if necessary; however, if planning to self cater there are no local shops. Paul was an excellent guide for our full day tour of Isandlwana and Rorkes Drift, bringing it to life. Anyone intending to visit the nearby battlefields would do well to stay at the Lodge.

Worth the huntThis hidden gem is actually some way south of Dundee off the R165 road. After a long dirt track from the Electrical sub station you travel the last 5k on a single farm track clearly marked with humorous signs. The accommodation is brilliant and Christine and Paul are there to put you at ease. The food is excellent and cooked on site. House cleaning including dishes is carried out by local staff efficiently and with care. loved every second of our 2 day stay.
