  Romantik Hoteol - Excellent Place to stay

  I stayed @ Romantik Hotel Goldener Stern in November 2018 for a week and was very much impressed with the Hospitality, Services and flexibility of the Staff in terms of accommodating the special requests from Guests. I am again back on a business trip to Gmund and this time we are 5 colleagues for 50 days. We all decided to stay again in Romantik Hotel Goldener Stern because they ensure highest quality of services. Extremely delighted with the services and customer focus. I would recommend this place to everyone....

  Fantastic Hotel and Staff

  We have stayed at hundreds of hotels over the last few years. This hotel ranks with the best. The positives: friendly and accommodating staff in every area of the hotel, large room, good elevators ( elevator only goes to 2nd floor, you have to climb the stairs to go to the third floor, but thats not a great effort), clean property and room, walking distance to restaurants and square(though this hotels restaurant is the best place to eat), good WiFi, comfortable bed, quiet room, secure bicycle storage ( in seminar room inside the hotel), good room lighting, great water pressure in sink and shower, good breakfast buffet (theyll cook eggs to order for you), good linens. The negatives: room could be uncomfortable in warm weather ( 3rd floor is noticeably warmer than 2nd floor) so ask for a room fan or dont accept a room above the 2nd floor. Bottom line: we would stay there again as long as the weather is not too hot. Note, this hotel is a good place to stay, but it is way overpriced ( we paid 183 Euros for one night including breakfast). Unfortunately, when youre bicycle touring and staying in hotels sometimes you have to stay where you can and pay what they ask. 125 Euros would be a more reasonable price for our room here. I had to deduct one star for the high price of the room.

  Perfect option for a weekend stay

  The hotel is situated right in the center of Gmünd. It was the weekend, so we could park our car directly on front of the hotel. There is also free private parking provided by the hotel, because during weekdays the city center is a short-term parking zone. Our room #302 on the top floor provided view onto the city square. Bathroom, toilet and living/sleeping room were spotlessly clean. In the bathroom there were enough clean and non-smelly towels. Rain shower was perfect. We could find a good sleep, because inside the hotel, as well as outside on the street there was no noise whatsoever. The only negative thing was, that the curtains could not block all the light coming from the street. Mattresses were optimal and the linen, sheets and pillows were fresh and clean. Check-out is usually 10am. At check-in we asked the receptionist if we could stay longer. No problem. She said that because its the weekend we could stay until noon. Breakfast buffet provided good coffee, lots of different bread, jams, ham, cheeses. There is a small menu on the table with egg dishes that are included in the price and can be ordered at the waitresses. All in all, we had a good stay at Goldener Stern.

  Roadworks noise at 630am

  This hotel is super clean, comfortable and quiet in the heart of a small town. However I was woken in the early hours 630 (530 UK time )by a team of construction workers resurfacing the road. There were multiple machines with alarms and horns carrying out works. Surely this breaks environmental noise pollution compliance. It sounded like helicopters in a war zone. Totally unacceptable that persisted for around 30 mins. Not the hotels fault but worth knowing that you will be woken early by these activities in this area of they are doing works without regard for peacefulness.

  Weekend Getaway

  The hotel is located in a provincial town called Gmuend on your way to Czech Republic, very close to the border. It's a great stopover to rest for the night, have a really good breakfast or enjoy delicious lunch before you journey on. Very friendly staff; We'd slept here on Friday night on our way to Czech Republic and stopped over on our way back to Vienna. Though we arrived a few minutes past 2pm and due to the Covid-19 measures, they'd reset their kitchen to close at 2pm and reopen later in the evening but the waiter was kind enough to make sure we got lunch served to us. Be sure to enjoy a scoop of YOPI, the best frozen yoghurt I've ever had, just across the street from the hotel.
