  When a bad experience leads you to a good one......

  We had booked the best room at Seven Boutique Hotel in Ascona for some days when at arrival with temperatures above 30 degrees celsius (>86 F) we were informed at the reception that the place did not have any A/C. This at $400/night.....Their website brags about how chique and upscale the Hotel is, but in the 21st century and after having undergone extensive renovations, they do not offer A/C and it is not mentioned anywhere in their website. So with all the luggage still in the car , we looked for another place and found quite a few ones despite the ongoing Jazz Festival. We found very welcoming words at The Castello and very helpful Ms Lager stood by the street as we drove by to give us directions to their private car park. The Hotel Castello is a total charm. We stayed at one of the tower suites that obviously had A/C. Service personell very attentive and courteous. Food at the Restaurante il Lago was good. Overall a very good experience. We shall return

  This could be the best place on the Promenade

  Castello Seeschloss has everything it would take to make it a fabulous place. The location, the exterior, the history. Indeed it has a pool, a good terrace by the lake and charging stations for electric cars. But for it to proclaim 4 stars and and to charge the prices they do, the place needs a general overhaul. The rooms, the infrastructure, the restaurants all need to arrive in this century and decade. Or then to lower its rating to three stars and the pricing accordingly. Ideally they go for the former and make it the place to be in Ascona.

  For a romantic vacation for two, rent the tower room!

  I was amazed and enjoyed every minute I was there! A room with a garden view was on the reservation, but when I arrived I was upgraded to a tower room! Upon entering it, my jaw dropped in awe. Every inch of the walls and ceiling were frescoed! The entire floor was tile mosaic, and there were stone stairs leading to the bathroom which was beautifully renovated! They have gone all out to make this a special place. It is a room for royalty! The entire hotel was a step into the past, their restaurant across the street was excellent and there wasn't a place to sit there that didn't have a view!

  Excellent location and a good hotel

  Our first hotel on this trip to Switzerland: Ascona is a lovely town, and the Seeschloss is very well located on the promenade, just a few minutes walk to the lake ferry terminal. Walk for about 7/8 mins to get to the town centre for frequent buses to Locarno etc.: the two main supermarkets (Coop & Migros) are close to the bus as well. The promenade is lively, even at night with a very Italian atmosphere, even though it is in Switzerland. Well, the room was very good...in the main building, next to a large sunny pool, which we used every day after some hard tourist sightseeing. The room was a good size, light, very clean, with A/C, and a small balcony...ideal for the Aperol before dinner! The rooms are not ultra modern, so if you want all glass and granite, maybe the Seeschloss is not for you. However they fully meet our needs, and ours was well located for the pool and reception: good views to the surrounding mountains and garden, and, as we like to have the window open rather than A/C, quiet. Hotel staff were efficient and attentive. Breakfast on the garden terrace was very good...an excellent choice of fruits, cereals, breads etc, with some jam made in-house. Cooked servings were usually a little late, but not excessively so, and if you are on holiday, it matters less: even so we were always out by 0915. The terrace restaurant was open...right on the lake side...very pleasant. With warm weather, that was a plus. Dinner though was of varying quality, and this is why I have used a 4 rating. On our first night there was obviously some kind of kitchen problem: matters improved thereafter, And a lakeside table is always welcome! The clientele are mainly German or German-speaking Swiss and demand high standards.....which apart from one dinner, I think they got. Of course the staff speak impeccable English (and Italian, French etc.), so no need for monoglots to worry! Would we go back? Yes, undoubtedly. Enjoy Swiss efficiency with an Italian overtone.

  Very good hotel in a wonderful plaice

  The hotel is very good, located at the lakefront and the rooms are very nice, some in the ancient "castle" part, some more recent. The garden is beautiful featuring a swimming pool. The hotel is very clean and the personnel is really friendly and helpful. Breakfast is good and can be taken outside in the garden region. The restaurant belonging to the hotel is across the street at the lake. The souper (menu) is great and the local wine tried excellent.
