Stunning view, average apartmentWe visited Kythera with a large group of extended family and friends- and chose to stay at Romantica at Agia Pelagia because we wanted to be able to walk to a selection of restaurants and cafes. In this regard it was great- it was a lovely walk down to the water and far enough to be quiet. We were traveling with two small children so booked the 2 bedroom apartment for 5 nights - it was very spacious and had an enormous living room and kitchen which provided ample space to unpack. We had requested a baby cot for our one year old- the cot they supplied was missing the correct base and instead used a replacement foam mat wrapped in a sheet- which is incredibly unsafe. The bathroom was very tired and it took 12 mins for the water in the shower to warm up (we timed it). One night we used the air conditioning unit in the main bedroom and after 3 hours I was woken by a large amount of water pouring down from the unit over me and the bedside table- not very pleasant. It rained twice during our stay and each time water leaked in the skirting board in the hallway. The breakfast was nice but became predictable after 5 days- a bit more variety would have been appreciated. There was also no high chair/baby chair available which was frustrating. The staff at check in and check out were friendly but we never saw them otherwise. I requested a plug for either the bathroom or kitchen sink (both were missing and I needed to do some hand washing as there was no washing machine) but it never materialized. Despite this we had a lovely time - this could be a terrific apartment but is in desperate need of maintenance and renovation. We visited my parents in a more deluxe room for 2 and it was very comfortable- hopefully the management will extend these renovations across all the rooms. (That said their balcony was incredibly dangerous for children with large gaps in the balustrade).

Romantica Apartments with PoolI am writing this here on the Romantica Hotel page but infact this Romantica Hotel is down the road closer to the sea than the Romantica Apartments that are further up the road towards the mountain that has a pool, where we stayed. But as others have put their photos of the pool here...I will continue my review here. Both Hotels are run by the same people. Our stay was alright. Our Junior Suite was a nice spacious room but the Balcony is the main attraction here. We had drinks with friends up here and it was a lovely place to sit and relax. The bathroom as in many bathrooms in Greece needs some sort of updating. Pool area was nice. Breakfast was the same every day - no variety. Lots and lots of steps up to the rooms. 2 flights of steps up to our room. Then more steps down to the road. Quite a walk to the restaurants and the swimming beach....then walk back up the hill back to the Hotel.

A welcoming hotelThis hotel is built on the seaside of a small village. No luxuries as such but it is to be expected since the cost of overnight stay is very reasonable. The man in charge and the lady at the reception cannot do enough to please the visitor. It is clean and comfortable bed made and towels change everyday. It offers adequate breakfast and a shuttle service to the town centre which is only five minutes walk. The chocholate colour personnel quite indifferent.

Comfortable stayStayed for a week as part of 3-centre Ramblers holiday. Young staff were always welcoming and polite. Room servicing was excellent. We appreciated aircon and fridge in room and good choice at breakfast. Good swimming from nearby beach and use of pool at Romantica apartments was an unexpected bonus. Suggest showers in rooms are upgraded in low season. Ours leaked onto bathroom floor!
