    Good food good service

    The roads being blocked off for a cycle race I had to walk back to my hotel today and popped in here for lunch and a cold drink. The service was instantaneous and efficient and the soup and chicken rice very tasty and the chilled bottle of water welcome. I would return here and although not cheap I would recommend this restaurant

    Uneven quality

    We had a gigantic room with large hot tub, but couldn't figure out how to get the water in it! Not a big deal but that one time we had sore legs from walking a lot it would have been nice. We also had a magnificent view on the sea, but with the sun the AC couldn't keep up. Internet was quite irregular. Staff was very nice, in particular the bell boy that was working long hours and had a wonderful smile, and the house cleaner who was very attentive.

    Group dinner at riviera

    Riviera was a very high end restaurant with a very good ambience and excellent food. It had a gorgeous view from the hilltop of the sea and towards the city as well. I felt that the quantity of food could be worked upon but the taste was exquisite

    Riviera Restaurant

    While the ambience at the Riviera Restaurant was calming and the view almost breathtaking the service was the exact opposite. Last night I had dinner there and ordered chicken fajitas . I've had chicken fajitas in different countries at many different restaurants (mostly Mexican) so its fair to say I know how it should be prepared and presented. This restaurant fell completely short. Prior to ordering I made sure to even ask the waiter if it was accompanied with the tortillas (as I've been to another restaurant in Baku that didn't have them ) and he said it came with everything. Lo and behold when my order came I couldn't even recognize it , it had no tortilla and it was accompanied by FRIES. I then called the waiter and told him this was not a fajitas dish and he basically said that's how they prepared it. Now I don't claim to be a food connoisseur but I am sure that if you're serving an international dish which in this case is Mexican food , you should uphold the basic standard of how its prepared and it should at least resemble the original in some way but I digress. So I told the waiter I didn't want it and I didn't want anything to replace it but he insisted on bringing it back and this time with 'LAVAS' (their native flat bread) under it . At this point I was incredibly peeved but still managed to remain calm simply informing him that I didn't want that either . A few minutes later the waiter came back and insisted I order something else complementary because he didn't want me to be upset and enjoy the rest of my evening. So I did even though I didn't want to just because he was so nice . Right after that the manager came to the table asking about the matter which I thought had been resolved but informed my friend who was translating for me that I would not be be getting a complementary dish and would have to pay for both. I've never had to pay for a meal that I didn't eat or in this case even touch and money wasn't an option because I came to dine and enjoy myself but its the mere principal. After being thorough enough to inquire how the fajitas dish was prepared before ordering and still receiving the wrong thing, its clear I wasn't at fault or just being difficult so to still be charged was completely preposterous. Then to make it worse after the waiter tried to redeem his mishap the manager revokes his proposal and practically scolds him for it in front of my party. Overall it wasn't really they meal that ruined my dinning experience, it was the fact that the manager's main priority wasn't ensuring the customers experience was memorable (the good kind) but instead it was making sure a dollar was made. For that reason alone I'll never be returning and I'm extremely disappointed in management.

    Riviera Restaurant in Baku - a sad experience

    We made reservations here three days in advance and when we arrived they said they had lost them. Do you think that they would work to find us a table? No instead they argued with us for a good 15 to 20 minutes until we finally had proof about our reservation and they begrudgingly gave us a table. The food was decent, the view was lovely, and the service was very nice, but the whole welcome was so disappointing and upsetting that it ruined the whole experience. Also restaurant decor is very basic and looks like a Dennys restaurant.
