Week of fly fishingOverall, it was a very good experience. Mike (owner) had dinner with us every evening. He is a local person and very knowledgeable regarding Belize. Hors d'oeuvres and meals were excellent. Meals served family style. The rooms were pleasant and the grounds lovely. This was a fly fishing trip with a friend and after five days of fishing, we had caught 5 fish, one a 100 lb. tarpon on a 10 weight fly rod. The fishing was "slow."

SuperbThe staff are very friendly and helpful. The early morning bird walking tour is fantastic. The food is great but with 12.5% tax and service charge added a little steep. The tours as well are not the cheapest but there are some fee options as well and sometimes you get what you pay for. Is is Eco so shower pressure was lower than used to but other than that.

Great Lodge but Slow FishingFantastic people who know everything about Belize past and present.Food excellent and accommodation comfortable. But the fishing was not good. One day we spotted no catchable fish. Other days we had some but we've been to much better locations at similar costs. Maybe we were particularly unlucky or perhaps the guide wasn't up to it or maybe its overfished

A Well Managed LodgeBelize River Lodge truly a nice place. Very well organized and every detail of our stay was thought out. The staff was friendly and helpful. The cook Yvonne was terrific, she made the trip memorable for sure. She without a doubt had our best interests in mind throughout the week. Unfortunately the fishing wasn't that good. We looked at the same water day after day with very little luck. Although the weather wasn't the best some days I feel the guide could of done more.

Old time eleganceMy first visit here most certainly will not be my last! Amazingly close to the airport and yet no noise from planes. As I get along in years convenient locations become more important to me, and it is difficult to imagine any first rate fly fishing lodge with a less troublesome connection. Customs was smooth and quick. Then a young man from the lodge met me in baggage to take my bags to a van for a very short ride ( maybe 10 minutes) and then a short boat ride to the lodge. About an hour after my plane landed I was in a panga headed out to find some tarpon, which we did and they were big! Dinner service is classy and the food delicious. I will be going back soon!
