Honeymoon in BayfieldGreat B&B! You cant get much better than the historic Old Rittenhouse Inn! Delicious breakfast in the mornings. Great customer service. Im a huge coffee drinker so I enjoyed the early morning coffee they provided prior to our scheduled breakfast. We stayed in the Moroccan Suite which was spacious and comfortable. The jacuzzi and fireplace were nice for relaxing. The balcony faced the parking lot which was not so scenic, but we enjoyed sitting on the front porch with our coffee and reading materials anyway. Overall Old Rittenhouse was a perfect stay for our honeymoon. We stayed for four nights here. The one change we would do with our trip is to break up our trip. We recommend only spending 1-2 nights in Bayfield then venturing on to another location. Bayfield is quaint and relaxing but there isnt much to do in the town and there was only a restaurant or two open which made food options sparse.

Stay Fine, but Definitely not Fabulous! Our stay was fine, but not the fabulous as expected. We booked two nites at the Old Rittenhouse Inn in Room VII. The outside of the Inn was beautiful in the fall foliage and sunshine when we arrived. Breakfasts were nice too. Unfortunately the room itself was disappointing. The redeeming factor is that it was large with a king bed and had its own bathroom. Compared to other vintage B&BS where we have stayed we found the decorating terribly dreary and totally dated with old-time bordered wallpaper and an usual collection of antique oriental fans on the walls instead of pictures. We knew that there would be a large 1980s-vogue jacuzzi in the room that we wouldnt use. However, the online photos show a fireplace with a burning fire. Reality was a sofa pushed up against the fireplace so it could not be used even in October! There is no TV is the room, no mini-fridge nor a coffeemaker as is customary with a more upscale room. To perhaps maintain the period look of the Inn, if that is indeed the point of not having these amenities, all could be installed in the armoire or other furniture in the room. Frankly with so many places in Bayfield closed due to Covid there is not much to do after 7:30 pm. So with no TV and difficult reading with the low wattage antique lamps we wished we had booked one nite instead of two. They also do not serve dinner now except on weekends. There were only two other indoor dining choices available in all of Bayfield while we were there midweek. Staff was friendly. Perhaps a suggestion to come down for coffee on the porch or to take back to the room before the appointed breakfast time would have solved the lack of a coffee maker for early risers. That doesnt solve the tired look or lack of fireplace warmth in the room itself! Old Rittenhouse was OK, but when we come back we will stay elsewhere.

We were so looking forward to a nice Anniversary supper here. This review is only for the restaurant - we thank goodness didn't stay here - I booked a table ahead of time for our Anniversary trip. We were so excited to come here for a nice gourmet supper. Then we got there...... There was not proper social distancing between tables and other guests. The servers weren't wearing masks. The special 4 course dinner for 2 that was advertised on their website - "was not being offered at this time". It's still advertised on their website, even though they aren't offering it. That was the main attraction to coming here for supper. The small, limited menu that they offered was pathetic. Barely any choices and very expensive. Since we had planned on coming here for our Anniversary supper for 2 months, driven for 6 hours to get here, had reservation and it was already very late in the day - we grudgingly decided to stay. My husband's steak was expensive and WAY over cooked. My pork medallians were expensive, tiny, dry and over cooked. I could barely cut them with the sharp knife that they provided us. Since everything was ala carte now - we couldn't afford to try all of the things that we originally were planning on trying there. The server wasn't very friendly, barely came back to check on us. A completely different server delivered our food to us and my husband waited for almost 15 minutes to get some steak sauce for his steak, which was mostly cold by that point. The desserts looked good, but we couldn't afford to try them. It was August and super hot and humid outside, they didn't have any air conditioning and no fans going - really uncomfortable to be in there. The chairs were also super uncomfortable. I will never, ever come back here - no matter what.

Romantic DinnerLoved our food here and the service was so wonderful. Prime rib and desserts are the best. Drinks are VERY expensive but food is moderately priced. ($15 gin and tonic). This mansion is gorgeous and very romantic. I would love to spend a weekend here in the summer.

Superb experience, staff goes above and beyondWeve been to The Rittenhouse a number of times and have always had a great experience. This time, we chose Bayfield and the Rittenhouse because of their strong COVID safety protocols. We celebrated the new year with an elegant, memorable five course dinner that was phenomenal in every way. Our waiter had been at the Rittenhouse since the beginning, over forty years, and had lovely stories to share during the evening with the history of the house. Entire staff was masked over three day stay. BONUS: staff was extra helpful when we had a car accident in town and had to deal with towing, pick up etc. We couldnt thank them enough!
