    Relaxing

If you want a busy, action packed holiday then go somewhere else. The whole point about Rifugium is its quiet isolation. Danielli, owner/host, could not have been more helpful. If you are interested in wildlife it's a bit quiet during the day but take a slow drive along the white-road towards Volpaia at night and you'll see wild boar and deer, and possibly (as we did) a wolf. There plenty of good-to-very good restaurants within 5 miles or so.

    A Tuscan pardise !

Friendly owners, always ready to help. We are a family of 5 so we stayed in an apartment witch was clean and very nice furnished . Very quiet at night! No airconditioning but electric fans witch are enough to cool the place down as it is also an old monastery rebuild in a modern B&B. Big, deep salt swimming pool with superb view over the Tuscan landscape. There is even a jacuzzi and several places to rest or to read a book. Good house wine. The village downtown has a Coop supermarket where you find all your groceries. Or you can ask the owners to cook for you if needed. Breakfast can be provided. The way to the resort is small but it is worth the trip. In a few words : paradise on earth!

Top of the world in Chianti

First things first, to get to this place is an adventure in itself, the last part of the road is very steep (21% incline) and at the end Its a dirty road. But when you get there you have a the best view of Chianti. We stayed 3 nights and was very happy with the accommodation. Very clean room and good beds, and the kitchen is fairly well equiped to cook your own dinner and breakfast. It is an old stone house which means it is naturally cool so we didnt miss that our room didnt have an AC. The owner provides breakfast if you like, and he makes a good cappuccino, but the rest of the breakfast is very basic. The pool area is very nice and a perfect place to relax in the afternoon and enjoy the view.

Great - but some challenges to being 'very good'

Booked here with friends, and arrived quite late. Sign-posting is poor, and you drive nearly 2km up a mountain track, with limited confirmation you're not driving into the middle of nowhere... I don't expect perfection, but having someone on arrival with something other than Italian language would be expected - we actually left for 2 hours to eat before being able to check-in. No doubt they are great little apartments/rooms - but 'a nip to the shops' is not easy. Pool great, if chilly. Breakfast was quite sparse, but lovely outside if the weather was good. Mobile reception poor, no UK TV. Has flashes of brilliance, but not sure we'd stay again, we'd risk trying somewhere else.

Best place to relax and get away from it all

We stayed here for a wonderful 4 day retreat and had the best of times. The apartments are spotless and very cosy. The bed was very comfortable and because of the silence I slept like a baby. Daniele is a wonderful host who took care of all our needs including some great and tasty Tuscan food. During the day we hiked on the surrounding hills and played in the pool (even though it was already October). I would reccommend coming here to anyone!!
