Laurel Cottage Richmond TasmaniaBeautiful little cottage in Richmond. Self contained with two quaint bedrooms, lounge with fireplace and kitchen. Julie the owner has beautifully restored this cottage. She supplies a wonderful breakfast of fresh eggs, toast and jams and offers complementary chocolates and port. A must stay when passing through this beautiful part of Tassie.

The Stables. We stayed recently and unfortunately the accom was quite dusty and could have done with a good clean. Asthmatics beware. Wonderful town though and the local Pizza place is excellent. We used Richmond as a base for Hobart.

Stables: Good value, very dated. We used Richmond as a base for Port Arthur and were dissapointed that much of Richmond was closed, at least when we were there. The highly recommended lolly shop was closed, as was the maze and tea rooms. Further, the drive back from Port Arthur at night really is as treacherous as they say. I saw more wildlife hurtling in front of my car than I did the whole time we were in Tasmania. The Stables themselves are very affordable, and you get plenty of space for your dollar. However, the decor is kitchie and the furniture is uncomfortably old. There's not much room for ones head in the shower either. The layout is somewhat awkward. Also, plastic wine glasses? Surely we're all better than that. Good value, but lacks creature comforts. A side tip, the local pub has the best chicken parma I've ever tasted. Ever.

Cute and CosyWe stayed as a couple with our toddler daughter over two nights during the Easter break. We had a great time snuggling in front of the wood fire in the Stables cottage. There is an upstairs room with bathroom ensuite and this includes a washing machine. The downstairs has a separate kitchen and there is a spare bed aside the dining table. The cottage has some kitsch country decor for those who like colonial charm. There is no heat pump so make sure you ask for firewood when you run out. There are breakfast provisions provided. This is a recommended stay. It's not the cheapest but it's nice, quaint and relaxing.
