Absolutely perfectI travelled to Marrakesh on my own and at first was going to book into a 5* hotel then I decided to stay in a riad as I wanted to experience the real Maroc . I absolutely made the right choice in Riad Dar Selen and I can honestly say I have never been so pleased with my choice ever . Within minutes of booking via booking.com I received an email from Veron asking if I would like a taxi transfer arranging and what I would like to eat on my arrival . I explained that I was on a strict diet and I would not require an evening meal. Upon arrival at Menara airport my transfer was waiting despite it being a 2 hour wait to get through passport control ( I think around three flights arrive at the same time and they are not equipped to deal with this amount of passengers ) note this is the same on departure , so leave yourself plenty of time on your departure . On arrival at the riad I was greeted by the lovely Veron and Hassan who served me mint tea and cake . Veron then showed me a map of the area , showing me where the riad was and where the square and the souks were , to be honest it is all very confusing at first , but the riad is just inside the Bab Aylen which means getting a taxi back is really simple and in the extreme heat is far better than walking back , whilst it's only about a 20 min walk through the maze of streets with all the street vendors and shops this can make it a long walk home if your anything like me and like to stop and look. I stayed in the syrienne room and it was beautiful , so light and airey just as described , three beautiful windows overlooking the courtyard. Breakfast prepared by Jamila was fabulous , toast , jam , Moroccan pancakes , huge fresh fruit platter, yoghurt and freshly squeezed orange juice and pot of coffee . They really catered for my dietary requirements , the fruit was absolutely delicious , plums the size of cherries and nectarines the size of plums . The breakfast kept me going all day . The roof terrace was just perfect and excellent sun trap with a fab jacuzzi and shower to cool off . Hassan who works with Veron was just great and showed me the way to the djemaa el fna , wow this is a fantastic experience . I travel a lot in Arabic countries but this was much different and I struggled to come to terms with what I was seeing and if I'm honest I really didn't enjoy the walk back but it helped me get my bearings . I wasn't sure after that if I would venture out again but I'm not one to be put off so the following evening I asked Veron if she could recommend any where nice to eat in Gueliz , she told me to get a cab to Cafe de la poste which I did and WOW what a difference a £3.50 taxi makes now this is more like it , the bar/ restaurant was fabulous like being in a scene from Casablanca, I absolutely loved it , this was more me . I then took a walk and went to Level 5 another fabulous bar with rooftop terrace . On the Saturday night Veron invited me out with her friends for dinner and drinks which was fabulous . On Sunday she took to me a fund raiser in an amazing villa where we raised money for a animal sanctuary. After this Veron took me to Sofitel in Hivernage where we visited a art exibition followed by cocktails . Following day I visited the Jardin Majorelle which are absolutely breathtaking and then I ventured back into the souks and by now Maroc had stolen my heart , I was totally in love with the place . I had an amazing shopping experience where I was told that I'm a tough women ( I'm used to haggling having spent so much time in Dubai ) . Again that evening myself and Veron went out for cocktails and then on my last day Veron had some previous guests coming to see her and again I was invited to join them for dinner . I definitely made the right choice by staying here , I was the only guest and was treated so well by Hassan , Jamila and Veron nothing was too much trouble , Hassan even went to Internet cafe to print my return flight ticket for me. One of the best things about my stay was Veron gave me mini french and Arabic lessons daily , even her friends helped teach me french. You will not be disappointed if you stay here as the service is exceptional and location just perfect as it's right on the wall of the medina so the view of the palmeries is fabulous and as mentioned before taxi home is so easy and if you are as good as me you don't even have to haggle or agree a price with the driver , I was paying 13MAD for my taxis which is what the locals pay . One things for sure you will not find a better team anywhere in Marrakech than Veron and her team . I cannot thank them enough for my fabulous Maroc experience and I will be back , in fact I loved it so much I'm returning this weekend , I'm missing Maroc and Veron already . So go on book Dar Selen and fall in love with Maroc

Friendly serviceI stayed in this Riad for three nights in July. LOCATION On first impressions I was unsure about the location as it is a 15 minute walk min to Jemaa el Fna and is down a few winding alleyways, however it is right next to a Bab (city gate) so it is possible to get a taxi if you wish. ROOM The room was a really good size and was clean throughout. However, for the first two days it really smelled of sewage. I'm not sure why! The water in the shower was also cold, which didn't bother me as it was boiling, however my friend wasn't too impressed. FOOD Our stay included one 3-course dinner in the Riad which we chose to take on the first night. This was really poor quality and included a pot of yoghurt for dessert. After talking to a couple regarding their stay here though I don't think this is the usual standard of the food so don't be put off as they had excellent meals there cooked by the usual chef rather than Hassan. The breakfast each morning was really great too with freshly baked breads and squeezed orange juice. SERVICE Service was great, Hassan could not be more obliging and helpful despite us not being able to communicate effectively with him as our French is terrible! Overall a great good quality stay, however it could be hit and miss depending on personalities/expectations. I thought it had everything I needed and was faultless, however my friend was not impressed by it at all. It's definitely worth a visit though!

Best place to stay.Everything was great. The host went out of his way to make us feel at home. We were 3 young women traveling alone and he made sure we felt safe. The homemade food was wonderful. Close to everything. Very comfortable
