  Basic but clean hotel in quiet fishing village on stunning coast

  This is a simple hotel, but it's spotlessly clean and freshly decorated. Breakfast is perfectly adequate (rolls, cheese, jam, banana) and they'll make you up a packed lunch. Hot water is fine as long as you avoid peak times. The village is very quiet, with a few basic shops and cafes, and is almost hassle-free.

  Great town, little bit rundown but okay hotel.

  We stayed in Residencial Ponto do Sol for three nights and came there to go hiking. The town itself is great. Very quiet but with a lovely atmosphere and plenty to explore (I can recommend walking along the old runway for some beautiful seaside views). The lady at the reception (who is also the owner?) only speaks French but is generally very nice. The rooms were very basic and a bit rundown, but definitely adequate. Like other have said we had trouble getting hot water in the shower, but since it was so hot when we were there that wasn't really a problem for us. Breakfast is fine with (stale) bread (do they have fresh bread anywhere in Cape Verde?), chocolate paste spread, cheese, ham, orange juice and coffee and tea. If you want to have lunch or dinner in the restaurant you have to book it in the morning. We were disappointed with the food. It was extremely greasy and tasteless, but maybe we were just unlucky with the dishes. Apart from that the hotel was fine. The hike we did from there was from Ponta do Sol to Cruzinha along the coast (about 6/7 hours). It was absolutely amazing. On the right you have the beautiful ocean, on the right the ever changing mountainous landscape. Definitely recommended. Do bring enough water and food as there is little to no opportunity to buy that on the way. You can get back by getting a taxi in Cruzinha (pretty expensive, I believe around 30$, but again definitely worth it). If you desparately need to go online while in Ponta do Sol there is a small cybercafe next to the square and a (slow) wifi connection on the square every night after nightfall. That is also where all the young people gather with their laptops and phones which creates a fun atmosphere.

  Very good place to stay

  The "Residencial Ponta do Sol" is a very good place to stay. The location is at the entrance of Ponta do Sol, which is a very small village, so everything is close by: The square with a mini market, souvenirshop, ATM and the aluguers (shared taxis) is only 150 metres and the nice harbour with some good restaurants is 350 metres away. The stuff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are big enough, simple and clean. Typical cape verdean interior. The furniture is old and a little musty, but once you open the windows it is okay. From the balcony you can get a nice view to the mountains, down town, the harbour and the ocean. At night you can hear the breaking of waves... The breakfast was absolutely satisfying (bread, butter, cheese, marmelade, yoghurt or eggs, banana, coffee, tea and juice) - excellent to start the day satisfied and having enough energy to do some nice hikes!!! (We can recomment the following hikes: Ponta do Sol - Chã de Igreja (6h slowly with a break); Espongeiro - Coculi (5h slowly with a break); Cova - Pombas (4h); if you want to go to Pico da Cruz, go by taxi until the village of Pico da Cruz - the street walk from Cova is not so nice, because cars are always passing by). Summing up it is a very good place to stay in Ponta do Sol, simple and clean, a good location to explore the island of Santo Antão.

  Friendly and clean residencial

  We spent 3 nights here and were satisfied. Simple, but clean and spacious 3-bedded room with balcony and bathroom, friendly young woman at the reception (speaking reasonable French and English). Excellent breakfast (best one we had in Cape Verde) with toast, nice local goat's cheese, cake, fresh fruit (papaya, banana) and fresh fruit juice (papaya, sometimes mixed with orange or banana).

  Stay away, horrible food!! Quite expensive fo what we got

  Had dinner there last week, I was promised a plate with different types of vegetables from the region, they served a plate with a few vegetables from a can! When we asked where the promised vegetables were, they replied they hadn't - very poor customer service! The same dishes we ordered we +/- 10.- euros cheaper in other restaurants in Ponta do Sol. The worst experience I had in 9 years as a Santo Antao tourist! Oh and a very noisy street next to the terrasse as well.
