  According to the couple in charge of the day-to-day operations of Ventana del Mar, it was originally built as a seaside vacation mansion by a rich family from Mexico City. But shortly after completing construction, in 2016, for reasons unknown, the family decided to retrofit their brand-new mansion to be a boutique hotel. As a result, the overall feeling when we were here, was isolated luxury - in the middle of the day, sometimes it seems you have the entire property to yourself. Located 15min out of town in an area called Residencial Conejos, the hotel is a rambling, luxurious place built on the edge of a high cliff, overlooking the stunning, endless Pacific. It has lots of very comfy, open common spaces, a lovely pool with a view of the ocean, and eight large rooms (with HUGE bathrooms) all with sea views. But you pay for it both in cash and inconvenience. While you wish you could order a drink, or some botanas, to enjoy the stunning view with a snack or a meal, sadly, there are no functioning bars or snack stands in the hotel. In fact, the only food available here at all, is if you pay the maid to fix you something in the kitchen (prices for this are 2-3 times what you would pay in Crucecita, and you need to speak Spanish). So we thought that we would just buy food in town, and eat it there, but the rooms don't have kitchenettes, or fridges. Our room also did not have a lock, and the maids just told us don't worry, nothing will happen. We weren't comfortable with that, and so they were very accommodating in changing our room. Weirdly, it is impossible to find Ventana del Mar, because it's in a new, gated community, outside of Huatulco (past Tangolunda), and it doesn't have a sign. It just looks like a very large house, in a suburb of very large houses. Also, the address given on the booking website doesn't correspond with their address the place actually uses. So, unless your taxi driver knows it, you'll have a very difficult time getting there. Which is the big drawback here you are trapped out at this location, with no restaurants or shopping or beaches within walking distance. To get a cab, you have to find a staff person (not easy!) who can call one for you, and then wait 15-30 min for it to arrive. And without a fridge in the room, the day-to-day planning of eating all your meals in one location - a taxi-ride away, while staying in another becomes quite cumbersome. The exquisite design, giant rooms, luxurious grounds and breathtaking views might make up for all that, for some people. But not us.
