Not worth the money spentThe staff are generally friendly and jovial, but very lazy. You generally feel as if you are imposing if you make a simple request such as asking for a beer etc.., The food lacks in general nutrition and is usually served with lack of enthusiasm from a disinterested staff that are looking at the clock for the time to go home. Rooms are usually quite clean but take a great deal of time to be finished. I would avoid this accommodation for something a little bit cheaper and closer to eating establishments where you can probably save on indigestion and get some more professional, enthusiastic service.

Good hotel questionable locationWe stayed six nights here and enjoyed the staff and the hotel room, the view of the beach was somewhat interesting. It seems the labourers who carry the chairs and tables out to the beach restaurants relieve themselves freely on the other side of the wall. This makes for an interesting time when you are enjoying the surf and then have a guy relieving himself in that same picture. If you are not standing at the wall you will not see what is going on on the other side and you can still see the surf, so my advice would be do not go near the wall and enjoy the garden, pool and surf! I am not sure I will be back, the prices are reasonable and like I said the staff are very helpful and friendly.

Affordable hotel in pointe noireHotel residence saint jaques is a nice little hotel near the beach in Pointe noire. The manager is helpful and friendly. There is a tennis table, a swimming pool and long chairs in the common area. Too bad the place was empty. The room was quite small but well it was alright for one night. More annoying was the water shortage but this was due to the lack of city water. Ok for 1 night

best for the priceEverywhere to stay is super pricey in the Congo. Nice little complex, rundown , could do with some maintenance. The beach is out the back gate, but the back gate was fallen off so it was jammed shut. Lots of food stalls on the beach. The pool in the hotel was nice. Yes the staff are lazy but were pleasant at the same time. For me for 2 nights was fine.

Truth is I was ComfortableFirst find your hotel. There are two Sainte Jacques (Bord de mer does not seem to cut it with taxi drivers) so the best bet is to ask for St Jacques arpres Hotel Azur. Once at Hotel Azur ask the taxi to go a further approx 100m away from town around the turn in the road and you are at St Jacques. When I was there I saw no other guests and the restaurant was closed. The bar still had booze in it but I did not enquire as to whether they were serving. My room smelled heavily of mothballs, presumably to keep insects away, and the t.v. was old style with two channels, one with no sound. I did not expect to like the place. The truth is I had a relaxing few days. The bed was comfortable and the water hot.The ac seemed to be limping along yet it did keep the room at an OK temperature. There was wifi in the room although it came and went. As an apparent only guest I had the 100% attention of whoever was on reception and together we communicated so that when assistance was needed it was forthcoming. Taxis are cheap and plentiful so getting into town, if you do not want to walk, is not a problem although there are a number of restaurants just beyond Hotel Azur if you want to eat locally.
