    Worth it on a budget

We arrived at Zambrone station after a 40 min transfer from the airport and there was no evidence of the alleged ' shuttle bus' to the complex nor in the whole time we were there did we see one. The problem with this is that without a car its over 1 km up a mountain to the complex with no directions or road signs! after finally finding the complex we found it is very pleasant and secure with a coded entrance for when the office was shut. The villas are basic and quite small but had everything we needed. There is also a decent sized 'unheated' pool. Breakfast which you pay extra for was very basic and very sweet with no fruit offered. The complex was run by a english speaking lady who was always helpful although slightly misleading when she offered us to approach her for ' lifts' down to Zambrone as the ony time we ever asked she refused without explanation. The overall value for money was good but i would strongly suggest a car as the advertised 'shuttle bus from the resort and back is non existent although i guess it may be used in 'peak' months. Local trains ran to schedule to the main resorts of Tropea and the local cafe bar was run by very helpful staff.

    Relaxing break

Lovely holiday park with stunning views of the Aeolian Islands. Good points- Nicely landscaped site, great pool, excellent staff service with good English spoken, excursions arranged easily, apartments have lovely private terraces with table and chairs. Stunning views of the coast, Tropea and the islands incluing the volcano, Stromboli. What could be done better? I think that it should be stated that in September the restaurant and bar are closed so it is not possible to eat on site. The apartments are very small- nice bedroom with large comfortable, probably king size, bed but the sitting area could be improved. It is not cosy at all because of the bright lighting. We were there right at the end of the season so bits of kit missing like the corkscrew- I didn't see the inventory until I had been there a few days. Other RCI resorts provide a small pack of cleaning equipment to avoid all guests having to purchase litre bottles of washing up liquid etc etc

Living on its past...Lovely area...find somewhere better to,stay.

You will need a car if you are staying here. It's a long walk down to the beach via a very steep road with busy traffic. This resort is on a very good site with wonderful views, but the apartments are something else. They have everything but it is terribly cramped . The units are not suitable for more than two adults as there is little room or privacy and with the door shut at night or in bad weather the unit is quite bleak and depressing We found the bed uncomfortable. It had a cross spring base which offered little support to the mattress. We put additional material between us and the mattress to make it more comfortable. The bathroom was adequate although we only got reasonable hot water from the shower. The towels were those we haven't seen in Italy for a long time, thin with the same thickness as a tea towel. The kitchen was fairly basic and not great for those wanting to do self catering. No microwave or oven. The units are very close together and when people are on the verandah other guest's presence and noise can be intrusive. The unheated pool which can reached by lift is OK but the furniture is basic and it sported just two sun umbrellas when we were there. The resort gives the impression of having fallen on hard times. Built a long time ago with minimum upkeep and only basic maintenance..yet people keep coming....mainly they are Italians. This is a lovely part of the world. If you want a good stay try the Blu Tropical which has both a hotel and self catering apartments...and access to a lovely beach RCI members beware...this resort should be on zilch points or if paying ...the least you can pay ie around £ 30 a night. Good staff..with an uphill struggle
