    Lovely Resort Enormous potential

Landing at Tangiers airport, crossed the road to the taxi rank I was assigned a driver and haggled a price of 200 durhams .. figured this was a good price! 30 minutes into the journey and it was apparent that the taxi driver was as clueless as me. 3 hours later and at a renewed cost of 700 durhams I reached Ksar Al Rimal. (There is a quicker option 1.5 hrs off the travel time - USE THE TOLL RD!) Now for Ksar Al Rimal On my arrival the security guards debated whether to let me in booking confirmation not withstanding, eventually deciding I was kosher I was directed to the reception office. Booking in at reception went smoothly and I was directed to my apartment. Satisfactory for my frugal needs, a 1 bedroom self catering apartment with a sofa bed, spacious, airy though dated and in need of maintenance. Unfortunately on arrival coffee table had not been cleaned, wall sockets dangerously fitted, paint work peeling from wall and ceiling, torn and dirty shower curtain, dirty bath, numerous blood splattered insect, mosquito stains on the white washed walls and cockroachs. As for the resort itself it has so much potential its splendid, beautifully spread out over several acres the apartments number close to or over 100, laid out in well looked after gardens, every day gardeners are hard at work on the resorts landscape. A large pool is in the grounds though the water appears not to have been cleaned and definitely didnt look healthy enough to swim in. Unfortunately there appeared to be no gym, restaurant or shop on this large complex, nor any entertainment facilities. Also important to note there is no internet connection/wifi on the complex, a shame as neighbouring hotels do have wifi access. I was kindly given the wifi password to the admin office though they later made that difficult. I later went into Mdiq the nearest town where I bought a usb internet dongle for the laptop. A number of the apartments open directly onto the beach and the Mediterranean sea, creating a spectacular, beautiful picture however unfortunately the beach is covered with litter and therefore choose not to spend any significant time there. The nearest town is Midiq with a bus stop literally opposite the resort, bus 35 goes direct into Midiq 10 minute journey at a cost of 4 durhams and numerous taxis at a cost of 7 durhams. Note: buses are usually packed and taxis are shared stopping to pick up numerous other passengers along the way and you can find yourself sharing the rear seat with 3 other strangers or the passenger seat with 2 . be prepared! I did most of my shopping in Midiq pronounced Midier a small town it has numerous shops, restaurants, a supermarket adjacent to the beach front, a few banks and a foreign exchange bureau in which I was able exchange money at a far better rate than Tangiers airport! At times I felt like Will Smith in I am legend, such a large complex the only people you saw were the gardeners and security. No more than a handful of guests though I was told that it does get busier in June to August months. I would say my main difficulty has been that I speak no Arabic or French and English is not so widely spoken. I would definitely return to Morocco though Ksar Al Rimal would not be a place Id return to unless it was updated, a shame as it has so much potential and its apartments ar crying out for a facelift. On the whole an enjoyable experience, very friendly and helpful staff, has great potential just needs a push in the right direction.
