  Bastante deteriorado, urge remodelacion, pedimos una habitación para cinco personas, no nos alcanzaba el agua caliente para bañarnos uno después de otro, había que esperar a que se calentara el agua, pedimos otra cobija y tuvimos que pasar por ella porque no había quien la mandara, a las 8.00 am empezaron a podar las plantas y nos desperto el ruido.

  Very nice rooms but a few shortcomings

  We wanted to stay in the area with my wife and our adult son, and found this property as an alternative to AirBnB. It was a good choice overall, however, our experience would have been significantly better if they could make one improvement. The property is in a convenient location, which worked well for us mostly walking around the area. However, it is located on the east side of a busy divided road. That means that if you are driving north, you will be able to get there easily, but if you want to drive south, you need to keep going further north until you find a place to make a U-turn. Similarly, if you are driving up from the north, you need to go further south, make a U-turn and then get into the property's driveway. I was a little concerned about the noise from the 92 freeway which is very close, but it turned out not to be an issue at all - the rooms are quite soundproof, and even with the windows slightly open the road noise wasn't an issue. There is some shopping nearby (walking distance), and the Foster City pedway (sidewalk along the lagoon) is 5 minute walk away. While the property calls itself "Residence Inn San Francisco Airport/San Mateo", there is no airport shuttle - would have been quite appropriate to be able to get to the airport from an "Airport" hotel without incurring a $30 cab fare. The property has two kinds of rooms - studios (which I haven't seen here) and the "2-bedroom 2 storey" units. Ours was of the latter kind. It may be a bit of a misnomer to call it a 2-bedroom, as the 2nd bed is located on the upper-level loft, which is open onto the living room/kitchen area. However, both the bedroom downstairs and the upstairs loft have a queen-sized bed. There is a TV in front of each bed, as well as the 3rd one in the living room, where there is an unfolding couch. However, because the loft is open, you can't really watch the TV upstairs and in the living room while keeping the sound on. This is a very minor niggle. The room has very good blackout curtains, which helps keep it dark even if it's light outside. Unfortunately, if you want to keep the window open, especially upstairs, it only has two outside panels which open, so you really need to keep the curtains open to get fresh air. The property has good air-conditioners. However, the thermostat only works in the combined heat+cool mode, so when you set a temperature setpoint of, say 68 degrees, it will blow warm air while the temperature is 67 or below, and then it will heat up and starts blowing cold air. During our stay it was pretty cool outside (low 50s), and we wanted to set the minimum temperature of 65 degrees, below which the heater would turn on, otherwise leaving the room at its natural temperature. However, the way this thermostat was set up, it would start blowing cold air to bring it down to 65 (quickly followed by the hot blast to correct when making it too cold). This was not cool, pardon the pun. Our suite had everything the right size - not too large, and not too cramped. There is a small kitchen with a full-size stove and fridge, A small counter-height table has 4 bar stools. There are two bathrooms - one off the bedroom downstairs, and the second on the side of the upstairs loft. The towels are nice and thick and the toiletries are very nice. The showers have nice curved curtain bars, which give plenty of shoulder room. The downstairs bathroom vanity seemed a bit deep, and the faucet was way too close to the edge of it. Also, there was a towel bar on the front, which sticks out another 2 inches forward, which makes it hard to reach the faucet when trying to wash hands or brush teeth. Not a huge problem, but could really be improved. The beds had fitted bottom sheets, which is very good. However, the mattresses were extremely hard, to the point that it was painful to sleep on. My wife and son stayed at a Marriott Courtyard, another lower-tier "Marriott" property the prior few days, and they both found the beds there to be significantly more comfortable. So I am relying on more than my own impression here. The pillows were also quite springy, though that was a minor inconvenience compared to the poor mattress quality. I am not expecting that the hotel will replace their mattresses, but they can easily rectify the problem by placing decent memory foam pads on the current mattresses - buying them in bulk, they can probably get them for $25 each. As things are, I would have to get a Klymit pad for each person in my family before staying there again. Other than that, I would happily return for another stay. The staff were all very friendly, if a bit overeager (we placed a Do Not Disturb sign, which did not prevent the housekeeping from coming into the room to replace the soap dispensers, as we'd hoped it would). Also, there is a very nice breakfast buffet with hot and cold items. If they take steps to improve the beds, this is a very good alternative to an AirBnb for travelers who travel with kids or otherwise want privacy.

  Loved my stay!!

  Thank you Matt at front desk! He was amazing. We our friends group split and are now from San Francisco and San Jose so we wanted somewhere in the middle. We chose this place because it has a suite with 3 beds and it looks spacious in the pictures. We were happily surprised it had 2 bathrooms and an accompanying my every request right away. Next time I stay in San Mateo I would love to stay here. Thanks again everyone!

  Limited services due to Covid 19

  Clean, large room with a kitchen. Comfortable bed and good linen. Unfortunately the pool and free breakfast were not available. Great front desk service from James. Lowest toilet I've ever seen. Isolated. Can't walk to anything.

  Updated Apartment, Just Fine

  Here is the scene - its COVID time, theres not much entertainment to do indoors, and its also wildfire season, so if the wind is just right, the air is smoky and no one wants to be outside. Where can a family of 4 go to, for an extended indoor stay, with a kitchen and space for everyone to do online work and school without being in each others way? What comes to mind is the Residence Inn. For this size space (two separate bedrooms, not a studio), the San Mateo Residence Inn was priced a lot cheaper than the other Residence Inns in the Bay Area, those ones looked newer but we needed to be here for awhile so I went with price. Everything about the apartment worked out just fine. When I say just fine, I mean, it was fine, it worked for us. I wouldnt say it felt like we were on vacation. It felt like going home to a parents house that was built in the 80s but they renovated the inside, and they did it themselves because there are paint roller splatters on the floor. They did all right on the renovations, the space was clean, but you can tell they didnt update the dishwasher because the door didnt stay closed unless you pushed hard and you couldnt run the oven and dishwasher at the same time or else the circuit blew (which you could flip the switch yourself). For our familys work/school situation, one person worked in the office desk in the bedroom, one person on the kitchen table, one in the living room (the computer table for the couch was nice to have), and one sitting on the bed in the bedroom loft with a lap table that we brought from home. The bedroom loft has a high ceiling and a lot of light. Some cons: the room had an odd Febreeze-smoke kind of smell. It wasnt terrible but it was there. We baked a lot of cookies to try to get rid of it. Some things to know: the pool and little fitness center was closed because COVID. Theres a coin-laundry room, it cost $2.25 for wash and $1.75 to dry. Bring your own detergent/fabric sheets. The dishes and pans are all in the dishwasher upon your arrival. There are only 4 sets of dishes so if you have 5 people, one person is out of luck. Some good things: the front desk staff was so nice and helpful, they waived our $10 daily parking fee because we had been evacuated from our house due to wildfire. They lent me a broom when I needed it. Theres also a computer and printer that you can print from for free at the front. Theres no shops or restaurants within close walking distance. However, on evenings when there wasnt smoke, we enjoyed walking along the water on the Foster City Levee Pedway, which you get to by walking through the condo neighborhood across the street. All in all, we were comfortable and staying here worked for us. If you wanted to feel like you were on a high-end luxury vacation, the other Residence Inns might be better. However, if you need someplace that does the job, this is a fine place to stay.
