    Convenient but needs some updating

    I realize we were there during COVID restrictions but there was no housekeeping for the 3 nights we stayed and that resulted in us feeling like we lived in filth because our trash and dirty towels weren't cleared out, and we had to request fresh towels. The gym was not well maintained. There were no disinfecting wipes in the dispensers, and no disinfecting spray even though a sign says to use spray after using equipment. The dust ruffle on one of our beds was ripping. One of our toilets had a leaky tank so water was pooling on the floor. All the dishes in the kitchen were clean and in dishwasher when we arrived which was good, and we had dish soap but nothing for the dishwasher so we couldnt run it ourselves and since housekeeping didnt come we had a sink full of dirty dishes. There we no USB port in the room which seems to be standard these days for charging phones. Our fireplace didnt work. There's really no sound proofing between rooms, and we could hear everything above us (including the guest unzipping his suitcase) and the noise woke us up a few times. The hotel was really empty so we don't understand why guests couldn't have been scattered more so that a noisy guest wasn't directly above us. We could also hear a smoke detector in a room down the hall beeping for 3 days and no one from hotel put a new battery in. The AC in our room didnt work, and we had to open windows to cool the room off. The fire pit area was closed which is fine because of COVID but when I checked in, the manager talked it up like to was a spot we could use. Weird. The hotel overall needs an upgrade. Just seems very run down and outdated. However, it is in a great location (Short Pump is awesome), the staff is very friendly, the grab and go breakfast is generous, and the laundry on-site was helpful to clean my daughters uniform each day after her games (we were in Virginia for a field hockey tournament).

    BEST HOTEL EXPERIENCE EVER!!!

    We had work done to our house and they put me, my husband, our two kids, and our cat in this hotel. It was beyond clean, inviting, and all around incredible customer service. Charmelle, Tishanna, and Kevin were phenomenal and made our stay so much better with their personable approach and kindness. I would recommend this place 100000% because there is no better place to stay in the area

    Roach problem

    We stayed in Richmond for 4 nights and chose the Residence Inn because we could get a 2 bedroom suite. The location is very good and the staff have been friendly, but thats about where the good ends. We arrived around 4:45pm and shortly before arrival I still hadnt received my mobile key so I contacted the hotel and after several minutes on hold was told my room was ready and theyd issue the key. We got there about 10 minutes later and noticed the dishwasher running, so my guess is someone just came and made sure the room was clean. Unfortunately they didnt do a very good job checking. We found old food in the cabinets, drawers, and under the sink in the kitchen area. It was also 75 degrees in the room and after an hour hadnt changed so we assume the AC doesnt work. Luckily it was cooler outside and the rest of the trip was cold so we didnt need it after the first night. The biggest issue with our room is the roaches. Throughout our stay we probably killed at least a dozen cockroaches. We saw two the first evening, and under normal circumstances wed ask to switch rooms, but we had a baby along with a dog and were already unpacked and not really looking to pack everything again. We called the front desk and she said shed call the exterminator in the morning but that she had a spray bottle I could use tonight. She came by and simply handed me a pump sprayer and said just leave it outside when I was done. Well not knowing anything about what was in the bottle and having a child and dog, I wasnt going to spray it around the room. I decided Id only spray in the cabinet under the sink where we saw the roaches. Unfortunately the sprayer handle was broken, so the whole sprayer was useless. The next day around lunchtime two guys show up, and Im thinking theyll treat the whole room. They simply did something under the sink to try and stop them. Later that evening I saw another roach and continued to see them throughout our stay. They only seem to be in the kitchen area, but we found them on the counters, in multiple cabinets, and also climbing the wall behind the sink. The property itself also just seems dirty. The hallway floors were never vacuumed in our 4 days there as there were things on the floor that never moved our whole trip. The second floor hallway also reeked of marijuana on multiple occasions during our stay. Needless to say even though the location is great and the staff friendly I will not be staying at this property again. If we didnt have the baby and dog with us we wouldnt have stayed even the first night. This property did not at all feel like a Marriott and it shows in this review.

    STAY AWAY - ROACHES!!!

    STAY AWAY - ROACHES! My first thought when I pulled into the parking lot of the hotel was that it was a very dated property. One of the letters in the Marriott sign was blown out, there was chipping paint on the outside, and...there were fans in the windows, which I thought was odd. Nevertheless, I'd stayed at other dated Marriotts and never had any problems. After checking in, I proceeded to my room, which had old brown cabinetry and a couch that'd seen better days. But I figured I could deal with it for two days. Later that evening, my friend and I were talking at the dining room table when I noticed a small bug scurry across the stove. Terrified of bugs, I ran into my bedroom. My friend proceeded to kill it and discovered another bug, which was clearly a roach, crawl out of one of the burners in the stove. We were MORTIFIED! In all my years at Marriotts, I've never experienced bugs! Long story short, we called the front desk and told them that we were IMMEDIATELY checking out! The hotel clerk was understanding and secured us reservations at another Marriott property ten minutes away. The next day, the manager refunded by credit card, but the anxiety and disgust my friend and I experienced at the sight of the bugs will take time to recover from. I don't know if I'll ever stay at another Residence Inn! My advice: STAY AWAY FROM THIS PROPERTY. It needs to be shut down or renovated completely!

    Oversold, got bumped.

    I had booked a one night stay here more than 2 months ago. I need a place to stay to break a long journey, and picked this hotel for it's 2 bedroom suites and location (close to a mall and restaurants). We got a call from the hotel the morning of our stay (when we were already on the road) telling us the hotel was oversold and offering us an "upgrade" at another property. Suffice it to say that was no upgrade (I have reviewed that property also), and the whole experience does not live up to the Marriott brand. I would have to suggest avoiding this property and chain.
