Good place, terrible managementDear Folks, As the caretaker of an American with disabilities, I need to relate an offense that occurred at Residence Inn Providence (West Greenwich RI) After nine days in our room, with another 4 already paid and 30 more booked and confirmed, my wife fell in Curtis Carlson's icy car park but did not complain. Odd people were frequenting the parking lot that night so I asked my wife to bring her medicine in for the evening. The turpines of medical marijuana can be robust, but it is just a flower until it is burned. I was rudely awakened by your manager, Curtis, with a toady in tow, telling me that there was a strong smell of marijuana coming from the room and that we were immediately evicted. He changed his story four times - at the door, at the desk, in the lobby, and while relating his offense to our insurance adjuster. No incense, no candle, no match, no lighter, no cigarette, and no marijuana or any other thing was ever combusted in that room. My family was made homeless by Carlson's wreckless actions after an already traumatic incident that placed us there. We weren't on vacation. The smell of the flower was conflated into the smell of smoke. I might not like the smell of someone's cologne in the lobby, but I don't complain and if your residents know the smell of marijuana they can choose to be offended or not. Perhaps rather than bringing it into the room we should have asked to place it in the safe. It simply didn't occur to me. In hindsight, I should have thought to call the West Greenwich police and ask them if they smelled any combusted marijuana. That didn't occur to me at the time either. I demand a public apology, financial remuneration, and 'sensitivity' or at least reality training for your manager. On a positive note, Springhill Suites, a few miles away, exemplified the Marriot Experience. I don't believe that Curtis is the only problem, there is something toxic in the ranks. I witnessed another 'manager' denigrate a 'subordinate' right in front of me in the lobby and had enough other interaction with other staff to know there is something rotten there. Aside from management, all staff were very hospitable, kind, and cordial. The rot is top level at this 'franchise'. I will not be surprised by any response from Mr. Carlson or another person he has lied to. Curtis cooked up 3 entirely different stories and one derivation - most of them in front of my face! Even after I asked him if he'd like to go to his office to lie to me rather than stand in the lobby and continue to embarrass himself. Later he smeared my good name creating a potential rift with our insurance adjuster. Yes, when you leave a room in haste there will be a bit of a mess, but there were no damages as he claimed and had we stayed out our reservation the room would have been cleaner than we found it when we checked out. The guy didn't even have the courtesy to cancel our previously booked 30 day extended stay when I asked him and said, "you can do it yourself". Seriously? I don't pay $202 per night to be treated like that. It's been over a month since we were evicted for no good cause and in violation of our rights, but I am a man of my word, Curtis, and as I told you, I will leave you a proper review. It is done. This is a true and complete account of atrocious 'hospitality'. And believe me, I expect him to lie some more.

More flaws than perksI have to stay that the most recent stay here, out of staying three other times, was the most disappointing. They are understaffed and that is completely understandable because of the Covid situation. But the hotel is dirty. Truly dirty. I assume that they would have had time to clean during the shutdown, but things are not clean and that makes me wonder how serious they're taking their overall cleaning precautions. My toddler was filthy after crawling and walking on the dining area carpet. The nooks and crannies in our room were filthy (I dropped my phone in the danger zone between the night stand and bed and it was gross). The bathtubs are old and look dirty. There is mildew on the shower curtain. Right now, they are only doing housecleaning every four days to reduce employee exposure which I think is a good idea, but they should make sure the rooms are CLEAN to begin with. There was dog hair on the convertible couch. Enough that it transferred onto our clothes. Another issue is staff. I had to call several times about WIFI connection. It is very slow. I had a meeting I needed strong WIFI for so I asked them if there was another area in the hotel that was faster. The woman working didn't know. I asked if their conference room had an ethernet cord. She didn't know. I asked if there was a way to access higher speed and she wasn't helpful. When I originally checked in, the front desk woman wouldn't let me check in because it was under my husband's name. I had to call him in front of her and then ask him to call her to check me in. There were no room trolleys (they only have two) and she had no interest in helping me locate them even though I had a ton of stuff and was by myself and on the fourth floor. Interactions were otherwise awkward as the housekeeping staff didn't really engage when we talked... I was in the lobby and a man with an armful of towels came up behind me and just stood there (I was in his way and had no idea because he didn't say anything). My friend alerted me to move. Just little encounters like that, where no one seems interested in speaking at all or trying to help at all. Finally, the biggest plus of this place is that they have suites with kitchenettes. However, the two burner flat top burns through the very cheap, very thin pans which, even on low heat, become just hot spots for food to burn and stink up the room with burning metal smell. The faucet was completely loose, as well. I won't stay here again. I worked in hospitality for many years and consider myself pretty lenient about most gaffes. But the overall impression that I got there is that they don't care about cleanliness and in a time like this, that's pretty irresponsible. I'm sure if management replies, they will just say they've alerted their staff, like all the other complaints, but obviously that isn't helping anything. And if it's the manager who was walking around with a crap ton of perfume on and no mask, then I'm not holding my breath.

Worst Marriot property ever!I travel for work and have stayed at hundreds of properties and this is by far the worst Marriott property I've ever stayed at! Total disregard for customer service by Sophia and Holly. We were lied to and ignored at check in then given a dirty room with trash still in the garbage cans. Just avoid this place.. discusting rooms and customer service. Marriott really needs to get rid of this property!

Rude hostile staffAfter a 9 hour drive, I was greeted at the desk by a rude and hostile staff member who informed me I would need to be quarantined 14 days or have a recent negative COVID test. I had stayed at this hotel 10 weeks earlier but I was a RI resident at the time. It had not occurred to me that my new out of state address would trigger this kind of COVID response. That being said, I gave my out of state address at the time of reservation and I feel I should have been notified at that time of the COVID rules at this location. The staff member was more than rude. I said I would find accommodations elsewhere and she yelled after me to Have a nice day! In a blatantly fresh manner. I responded in kind. I did not stay at this hotel but was then charged for a nights stay. I contacted Marriott Bonvoy about the situation and received an email response that they were sorry this had occurred and that a staff member at the location would contact me in a few days. After 9 days, I reached out to Marriott Bonvoy again because I had not been contacted as they had stated I would. It is now day 12 and have not gotten a response from Marriott Bonvoy or the hotel itself. I would like a refund. This is no way to treat a loyal Marriott customer. Well, at least I was a loyal Marriott customer.

Hotel went downhill fast!As of January 2021, the hotels entire 2nd floor has allegedly been rented to a homeless advocacy shelter, which places numerous homeless people in the guest rooms. These unfortunate souls usually have issues with drugs, alcohol and mental illnesses and everything that comes with those problems. The police are responding much more often for issues in guest rooms and the outside area around the hotel. This used to be a safe, clean hotel, but within the past year it has gone downhill fast. Save your money and pick another hotel up the street, or call the hotel before booking. Make sure you lock your car if you do stay there.
