Not fully cleanedWhen we checked in their was a dirty cleaning towel left on the kitchen counter and trash left in the trash can. This is unacceptable especially during a pandemic! I called to let the front desk know. The receptionist was unapologetic and just offered to only switch us to a new room. After hauling 4 large suitcases up the stairs and into the room, I just wanted the one we were in cleaned. A housekeep came about 20-30 minutes later and cleaned it. Additionally, the bathroom vent had fallen off at some point and was laying on the floor. The housekeeper said maintenance would be out to fix it, but during our 5 day stay they never showed. The dishwasher was broken or inoperable. Also, the little free shampoos and lotions wouldve been nice but they left none and of course, this is the one time I didnt pack my own. Definitely not a good stay and I will not be back.

Staff very friendly.... manager goes above and beyond.... room super clean... but, decor a little "long in the tooth."I read some of the one star and two star reviews before my wife and I came to stay at the Marriott Residence Inn in Herndon, VA (next to Reston). I sent a message to the management and was contacted immediately by Youssef, the front desk manager, and then later on by the General Manager, Sean Flynn. Both gentlemen assured me that our room would be immaculately clean and the extra towels and pillows would be provided. When we arrived, I was very plesantly greeted by both Youssef and Sean who happened to be at the front desk when we arrived. Both greeted me and said that they assured us that all was "perfect" with our room. And indeed it was. VERY CLEAN. My wife is a "stickler" for a clean hotel room, so she went around the ENTIRE suite, INCLUDING the bathroom and scrutinized everything. To her pleasant suprise and happiness, EVERYTHING was super clean!! So... what is all the one and two star reviews about?..... the decor. Yup. The place was built in 1988 and it still LOOKS like 1988. As Sean, the General Manager, explained to me, this property was supposed to get the "complete top to bottom, major renovation from Marriott Corp" about 8 months ago.... but good ol' Covid stepped in and put the kibosh on the renovation until things clear up. Here are the VERY GOOD things about this Residence Inn: -- CLEAN. Yes, the place was VERY clean! (my wife is expert on that) -- QUIET. In our room, you can hardly hear anything outside. Except maybe when a emergency services vehicle drives by with sirens blaring... but then again, you get that at home, so why complain here? -- COMFY. Oh my Goodness!!! The bed in this hotel was the MOST COMFORTABLE that my wife and I have ever slept in!!! We joked that we wanted to take the bed home with us!!! Truly... you lay down, close your eyes, and BAM! Sleep mode activate! Pillows are two types, firm and soft. Some people like soft, others like a more firm. Worked great for us. --PRICE. Excellent rates for rooms. How can you go wrong with a very decent rate. --SUPER FAST INTERNET. Our extended stay of 14 days was necessitated because my wife needed to get a medical procedure done and Reston was the best place to go. I had to get work done, I work as Director of Information Technology at a local library on Long Island in New York and we are going through a major expansion/renovation project and I had to take MANY Zoom meeting, plus file reports, etc. I was VERY PLEASANTLY surprised to find that the hotel has BOTH a Wired connection and a Wireless one. And even with the use of a VPN (safety/security to protect data from nefarious eyes), the speeds were 120Mbps down and 120Mbps up. NOT BAD for a hotel! And the connection NEVER dropped. My Zoom calls went through flawlessly!! Not so good things: -- DECOR. As stated above, past its prime. In need of a definite major renovation. But... it's not the manager's fault. Blame Covid for this delay. -- LOOSE KNOBS. The cabinet door under the sink had a knob that just kept coming off. After 30 years of constant use, my knobs would be falling off too! Nothing major, we just took the garbage can that was under there and moved it to the side. --OLD APPLIANCES. Just like with Decor, the appliances are old. BUT.. they work! The ice maker in the freezer cranks out ice WAY better than my brand new LG fridge at home! So... if you want to stay at a clean place with a super friendly, accomodating, and helpful staff at a very reasonable rate... this Residence Inn is for you! But.. if you want ultra modern, brand new.... then you'll have to "move on along" until the reno is done. If I need to be back in the Reston area again, I will stay here with no hesitation.

A Great Hotel - But Pricey And Getting PricierIf you're lucky enough to reserve a two-bedroom, the structure of your room will be unlike any you have ever stayed in - and that's a good thing. The second bedroom is an internal loft, giving you a large amount of square footage and bringing a fun twist to an otherwise predictable brand. It's unique and very cool. The other reviews are correct that some pieces of the hotel's decor and technology could use some updating, but you used to be able to look past it due to the novelty that this property offers. It makes me sorry to say that there are some things that are starting to slip at this property - and I write this to warn future customers and in hopes the management can stop any decline. At the most recent stay, it's clear that somebody broke or stole one of the upstairs computer chairs. Did the hotel replace it? Nope - just brought one of the kitchen chairs upstairs and set it at the desk. OK - down one chair, not the biggest deal. Open the cabinet - and we're missing several glasses, plates and spoons. The microwave is still on daylight saving time, the living room has no remote, and so on. The worst part is the recent change in amenities. In what I'm hoping is a fun prank, the hotel has started charging $12 per car per night. This is insane. If anything, the parking lot is oversized and far too empty. This new policy is nothing but a customer-hostile cash grab at what is already an overpriced property. Hopefully this policy will quickly be lifted - if it isn't, I recommend that all future customers unload their luggage and park their car in one of the numerous commercial lots surrounding the property. Finally, the hotel has no gym. The Herndon Gold's Gym has cancelled their agreement to provide fitness access for hotel guests, and this property hasn't yet established anything to replace it. While the hotel does have a pool, you won't be able to get so much as a treadmill during your stay here. Is it worth your time? Sure. I just question whether this property will continue to be worth your money in the future.
