The best in St TropezThis is our first visit of Cheval Blanc St-Tropez, and we love it very much! From the warm welcome with the lovely receptionist till end. Everything it great. I love the attention to detail design of the hotel room, and the attentive hotel staff. Last but not least, their restaurant is superb. I had my best birthday dinner there ever. Thank you very much for the arrange such a lovely and memorable night for us! We would def come back next Summer.

Not 5 Star, barely 4 star, at this price range go elsewhere...Small botique hotel, with one restaurant that serves breakfast lunch and dinner and small spa. The biggest problem with this hotel is the staff. Not polished and poorly trained. A few staff members put forth the effort but most fall flat. Pool/beach area is understaffed, long wait times for drinks, forgetting orders altogether, when you finally get their attention you feel you as if they are doing you the biggest favor in the world. Many guests reward this bad behavior by tipping for service. Not good, I'm not opposed to tipping, but if you are happy with your stay and someone went above and beyond tip at the end of the trip, it should not be expected or effect performance level. Hotel staff needs to treat each hotel guest equally. That starts from the top with the hotel management giving them the support and resources and proper staffing to be able to cater to all guests in a reasonable amount of time. The problems continue, at $1000 a night the rooms are tiny and poorly designed. Bathroom shower nobs are difficult to turn and operate and I am 34 years old, I can't imagine someone with arthritus or hand issues, water leaks from underneath shower door, curtain constantly getting in the way when trying to exit the shower, things constantly poking or bumping into you due to the small size. The TOTO washlet is the cheapest version. It makes a loud obnoxious jackhammer noise before and after use, it will most certainly wake your partner up if you use in the middle of the night. Uncomfortable beds and pillows. They will email you a long list of "preferences" prior to arrival but nothing is highlighted or mentioned during your stay, total waste of time. At this hotel they believe that more is more, but in reality, at this hotel more is less. I'd rather have 3 perfectly cooked, crispy, flaky, FRESH, butter croissants at breakfast rather than barrage of dishes I don't want, with 3 hour old tasting croissants with several other dishes that I don't really care for or that lack any flavor. During breakfast they keep piling on dish after dish of mediocre food. At one point there were so many dishes on the table I was just purely overwhelmed, and not in a good way. The first day I ordered pancakes as my "ala carte dish" and it never arrived. Only after reminding the waittress that it never came did she claim the chef burnt the dish and they'd be remaking me a new one. Second morning, and this was the real kicker, my wife went down for breakfast and was told she could not have breakfast in the main seating area because the restaurant was getting ready to close to do a changeover for lunch. Totally inappropriate for this hotel class. She arrived 10 minutes prior to closing and they had just sat another couple right before her. They banished her a tiny low table isolated by the pool in front of someone elses balcony. If there was a proper host/hostess at breakfast this would never happen. You just stand there waiting and trying to get anyone's attention. This was brought to the managers attention who thought a balloon and small flower arrangement would help make us feel better. To make matters worse I emailed the hotel prior to arrival making them aware my wife had just finished 6 months of chemo and that I wanted this to be a nice relaxing trip for her, rather they felt it was appropriate to banish her in front of someone elses balcony shows you that they do not pay any attention to detail. Concierge never followed up with email confirmations for lunch bookings leading up to arrival, had to call the hotel 3 times for follow-up. In this hotel you can't help but feel claustrophobic. We learned on our last day from the valet attendant that the hotel offers a shuttle into town. Never mentioned when we checked in. I've had the privelage of being able to stay at some of the best hotels in the world. I know good service, I pay more because I want my trips to be flawless, and to not have to think. I want to be catered to and at this price range thats what needs to be delivered. Hotels like "Le Bristol" in Paris is a perfect example of this, they are a TRUE "PALACE" hotel in France, the ENTIRE staff perform effortlessly like they are putting on a show. No pretention, no stress, just easy, classy. You feel as if there are more staff then guests at Le Bristol, comfortable like its your home, tending to your every need. At Cheval Blanc St Tropez you feel like a bother, or an intruder. The one positive I must mention is the spa, small quaint facilities, nice relaxing massage, although the hard sell of high priced Guerlain products at the end of the treatments needs to stop. To other travelers: I personally will not return, and I also suggest you as well should think twice before paying $1000+ on this hotel. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere, where you can feel welcome, comfortable, and where you will feel catered to. To the Hotel: Go back to the basics, make fresh croissants, perfect your service, focus on quality not quantity, try to perfect and master 5 star level service and guest expectations before putting an emphasis on trying so hard to achieve "Palace Status".
