    Annual Conference in Virginia

    The front desk personnel was very helpful and courteous. They worked with me when I was expecting an overnight delivery. The staff was extremely helpful in making this a very satisfying stay. The room was very comfortable throughout the 4 nights.

    Looking somewhere else next time...

    This used to be one of my favorite hotels. We have stayed here 4 times. Once a year. Last year, it had started to downhill. This year, it was just absurd. Was COVID the factor? Nope. To start off, I want to make sure the front desk staff gets their due. Talk about lack of customer service skills. I was just checking in and they were being rude. We had requested a high floor and we got the 4th floor. I just asked if they could check and I swear I must have been wasting their dang time. Lots of eye rolling behind those masks. Yep, we can still see your eyes maybe not your mouth and nose. I came back later to grab a soda and once again... apparently checking me out was the bane of their existence. Its Labor Day Weekend and this hotel has 16 floors. We were on the 14th floor (amazing view by the way...). Its all fun and games until this HUGE hotel is only running 1 elevator out of the 3. To the 14th floor. The first time, we waited for an elevator. For 19 minutes. Then, we had to back down later in the evening. So we took the stairs. Down 14 flights of stairs. None of which are clearly marked and end up on this bottom floor which looks like a scene of a horror film. Then the only door out is the emergency an alarm will sound if pushed exit door. Spoiler alert: the alarm didnt go off. Now, we are on the side of the hotel in a freaking alley. Yeah. At night. Ive never felt so unsafe at a hotel in my life! To say we are done with this hotel would be an understatement. Please stay somewhere else for this amount of money.

    The Way You Make Me Feel

    My recent stay evolved from one night to almost 2 weeks because of the way the employees made me feel. This property is beautifully situated on the Elizabeth river with stunning views of the river and lights of Norfolk. I especially preferred the view of the river as it fed my spirit. As this property is currently going trough renovation, I felt much was done to ease my inconveniences. The rooms that have undergone renovation are beautiful with flooring, lighting and furniture which makes for a cozy ambiance. I did have some challenge with noise level of my neighbors and staff worked to create a win/win situation for all involved. I was teaching an online class and all efforts was made to help my experience. Mirael, front desk personnel, even inquired about my class the next day. And this speaks to "the way you make me feel". I felt valued as a guest. Everyone was very kind. Much was done to ensure a comfortable stay from all of the staff; front desk personnel, housekeeping and engineering. To Sheena, Mirael, Liz and the crew, keep being this light. Thank you

    Horrible service

    After a wait of more than 2 hours, the waitress went oh I forgot to bring you check. The service was SO bad, I had to go to someone and put my order in. 25 min. later the pepperoni bread wasn't done. I had to go after another waiter to get it and then it took another 15 min. FORTY MINUTES that I had to go get it. On top of that I had to go to the bar and order my $9 drink that was only 3/4 filled. The waitress apologized but STILL charged us. No more food again when your own waitress said oh we don't have enough people they all quit, but we still want to be paid for that.

    Needs some new management :(

    You know how you walk onto a hotel or a restaurant and you can immediately sense there is no management presence? The front desk employee is on their phone, the bartender is over at the end of the bar talking to a friend, and nobody seems to care? That's my experience with this hotel. Nobody seemed to care, I think I saw 2 employees the entire stay. I wish there were more employees, like an extra housekeeper to stock the room with more than 2 bath towels (not YOU very aggressive 8:13AM banging on the door housekeeper. Also try decaf....please) or another engineer to fix the holes in the headboard where the lights used to be... that would have been nice. Overall, it's so many little things from service to housekeeping to engineering that you know upper management just does not care or is not present. And that's sad because it's a beautiful location and a great building.
