Superb Service !!!Ive always had very critical views about most German hotels when it comes to SERVICE as I strongly believe most hotels in Germany, be it 5 star or otherwise, needs to work on their service mindset and friendliness especially towards non-European travellers. But, RELAXA HOTEL at HARZ WALD, was beyond my expectation and rather shocked me with their amazing and un-compromised attitude towards very friendly and able SERVICE MINDSET. This is truly a well managed hotel, with every member of the team displaying exceptional mindset towards making every traveller feel very comfortable. The Resident Manager of the hotel should be congratulated, he or she has done a fabulous job in inspiring the team. A special mention about Mr. Mathias Schoppe, very senior bar attendant at the lobby bar, who served all by himself a very large crowd who was always at the lobby bar. He was truly amazing, at his age, he served every customer with an amazing attitude although he was extremely busy making drinks, serving, billing, cleaning etc all by himself. What a guy. He epitomises service mindset. I recommend all Indians, Asians, South Asians and East Asians to book this hotel without any hesitation, dont worry even slightly, this is truly an amazing hotel.

The room was ok but the food is appalling.I booked a three-night "romantic" break in December. This was to include breakfast and two four-course dinners and a buffet dinner. The hotel is right the other side of town from the bus stop where we had arrived from the train station. This is not ideal if you are travelling by public transport and have to drag a suitcase through deep snow. This is however not the fault of the hotel, but just to warn you if you are planning a public transport arrival. The room was adequately sized and comfortable. It has a balcony that overlooked the woods which were quite pretty. The swimming pool was large, but quite cold with another, much smaller, warmer pool behind it. We avoided the sauna area as it has a no clothing policy which is standard throughout Germany and my poor British brain cannot cope with the whole getting naked with strangers thing. The restaurant was quite large but seems quite dated. We were shown to our table and presented a menu for that evening and the following evening. I looked down the menu for the following evening, the alleged "romantic meal for two by candlelight" to see there was fish on the menu for the main course. I have an allergy to fish so thought I should tell the staff that so they were aware they needed to make a change. The night of the meal, I reminded the staff again of my fish allergy and they said that they were aware. Five minutes later, the "amuse bouche" arrived. It was fish terrine. I said, again, I have a fish allergy to which I received the reply "stimmt" (exactly) at which point she picked up my plate and gave it to my husband. He didn't want it as he had eaten the one for him and said it was pretty disgusting. Thankfully the main course arrived without fish (after checking once more). It was a mushroom risotto which was more like a rice pudding. the food, all of it, was bland, overcooked and frankly horrible. I can cook better myself and I am not a trained chef. The absolute "piece de resistance" was the evening buffet. My word. I lifted the lid on every dish and felt repelled by absolutely everything that was contained inside. I ate cheese, as did my husband. I watched numerous people lift the lids to the dishes on the buffet table followed by walking up and down the line trying to decide which dish was the least unappealing. It was just bad. I feel I was cheated out of the 600 I spent on this trip.

My worst ever hotel stayA group of 6 mountainbikers from Denmark had a 4 days booked at Relaxa hotel in Braunlage in early September. I shall never forget that weekend. We had a wonderfull thursday evening and a full friday in the beautifull Harzen. As we have breakfast and dinner included in our stay we only dined at the Hotel. Friday evening something went wrong. Over the night 5 of us felt bad, and the following morning most of us turned the stomack inside out. We got a plain food poisening, not a bacterial infection, bad from badly treated food. My doctor could tell me that the toxins makes you sick, and the more you ate, the sicker you got. I had plenty. The following evening, saturday, I could barely walk down to the reception, but I got there. And expained what happened. Strangely enough the guy behind the desk spoke no English, which I am sure he did minutes before, so I explained in German. He just said that it never happened before and did not take it seriously. Same reaction in the restaurant, they could do nothing. We met several other groups and some told exactly the same story. After getting back I contacted the manager. He emailed back that they did nothing wrong, we got it somerwhere else, bla bla bla. But they offered me 150 EUR, but not admitting anything. So as the little guy against the hotel, what can you do? Well, tell everybody else that they dont care about their guests, brings miscredit and doubt on the table, and deny the undeniable.. Well, RELAXA, thanks for nothing, and Auf-nie-mehr-wiedersehen.

Nice fairly modern hotel with good spa area.Stayed for 2 night break with my mum. The hotel looks nice inside out. Pool is nice. Saunas also very nice. Gym was locked. Had to get a key of reception. The rooms were ok size but no kettle, or place to put the suitcases. Bit unusual for 4 Star hotel. Had to pay 20 Euro extra to get a bigger size bed. So it was not cheap. Paid about 300 Euro for 2 nights withbreakfast. Bkfast was pretty nice but not special. The barman a young guy was very friendly. The reception staff were not that friendly. The staff in the restaurant seemed friendly. A good hotel with some little things that need improvement.

Brilliant as always.I don't know why, but the most recent review of this hotel is mine from last year. I don't know why there had been no other review after my review from last year. I stayed again this year, FEB 2019. Before I say anything, i have to mention a name, yet again, Mathiass Schoppe, the able and brilliant bartender of this hotel. What a guy. Senior gentleman, who exemplifies the definition of service mindset. He is a phoenominal individual. A very exceptional German. He is perfect to work at the bestest of the hotels in the world. As I always say, German hotels are not known for service or relaxed atmosphere because Germans tend to be very strict and 'as a matter of fact' individuals. But I always felt different at Relaxa at Braunlage. This is a small town, the hotel is a small town hotel, yet, this hotel special. The staff at the dinner restaurant are rather fabulous. They are very attentive, fast and hardworking. They are very coordial and friendly too, except one old lady, who was very rude and unfriendly. She was miserable. She destroys the whole goodness of this hotel. Maybe at her age, she had a bad day. Thus, we shall ignore her rude manner and wish her very best. My congratulations to the General Manager of this hotel. HE or SHE is doing a fabulous job. Germany needs more like this GM. My gratitude to all the house keeping staff. This hotel is kept brilliantly clean. A good hotel. Go ahead and make your booking. As one of the most senior contributors of TripAdvisor, I highly recommend this hotel.
