Ideal for some, but not everyone

We ended up here by accident as it was part of the same property group where our original booking had been cancelled. This place would be ideal if you like peace, tranquility and escape but it was not really what we had first planned for our stay. Also surprised there was no TV, fridge or safe in the room. Apparently we were the only people staying at this time because they were preparing for a large wedding this coming weekend. (I feel it would be an amazing place for a wedding). It did feel a bit strange having the whole dining room to ourselves for dinner but Mario, our chef (and waiter) was a great character that added fun to the evening. We enjoyed sampling their own beer and wine. Cannot really say it is good or bad, it is just not for everyone.

    relax as it should be

Simply spectacular place, simple and authentic food l, spa and great rooms in the monastery. Dont miss the artisanal Monasta beer. I have been there a few times. Must say food and care for the details was outstanding years ago, but still memorable nowadays.

Not entirely without drawbacks, but enjoy beauty and very fine service

It takes a while to get there - small and narrow country roads guarantee that. Once you are there, the well restored little monastery is a pleasure for the eye as is the pretty landscape around it. There is absolute quiet. One major plus: Close to Assisi which is a marvelous and beautiful little jewel of a city. The idea behind this converted monastery from 1331 is clearly to sort of recreate the atmosphere from back then so that body and soul can relax and not be distracted by outside interference. One example: There are no TV`s around. The rooms are few but the various wellness facilities pretty big. We did not use those so this is just to tell you that if you so wish there are opportunities to get all sorts of baths, creams, massage etc. The rooms are not big. The beds are OK, a little to the hard side maybe. Bathrooms are fine. One clear drawback: There are no comfortable chairs in the rooms. There is a little area next to the reception where there are a few comfortable chairs and this is where you have to go if you do not wish to sit on your bed. It is by the way also the only place where the wifi works perfectly. There is a nice restaurant which serves good food, not Michelin style or level, but fresh and well prepared. Their salads are fantastic and homegrown. Their wine and beer also come from the property. We do not drink beer, but we had dinner twice in the restaurant and tried two different wines. Go for the sparkling ones! They are definitely better than the non-sparkling which are much too fruity. Now, this may lead you to doubt the wisdom of going there. This is not my intention with this review. Quite the contrary: I can recommend the place, not least because their service is nothing short of superb. They really try to make their guests happy and they succeed.

    Works for some...

After looking at the pictures on the website. I had a very different image in my mind to the actual monastery - much of which has been renovated. Instead of rolling hills or countryside, we had a very good view of the parking lot instead and could hear conversations from outside when the windows were open. It was summer when we were there. There was no air conditioning unfortunately which was a bit challenging. Expect to drive- there isnt anything within walking distance.

    VERY SPECIAL MONASTERY

We stayed here in the last week of July, and it was unforgettable! The location is very secluded far away from the big tourist places. The atmosphere is warm, serene and sober . So the rooms are, a bit spartan, but it reflects the real Monastery atmosphere perfect. The swimming pool is so heavenly, with the smell of Lavender and Rosemary everywhere. The Spa and wellness is beyond imagination. We've seen a lot of Spa's all over the world, but this one is a dream.Prices for the treatments are quiet high, but ................ Breakfast and Diner were just fine, not much choice, but we were so happy to be there, and sitting outside watching the most beautiful sunset you can imagine. Federico was a very fine intelligent young man, who gave us a lot of interesting tips. Thanks Federico, we went to the Castelo Postigna , and had several drinks overthere! Fantastic !!!! In our next Umbria trip we wil definetly return to this little paradise, where there is more spirituality than in the whole Assisi ! Mille grazie e Arrivederci XXX Ignatius van Hoof and Stefan van Look Belgium
