Great End of Season Ski BreakJust spent the last week of the ski season at the Rauscher and Paracelsus hotel. This is a great hotel for enjoying the skiing in Bad Hofgastein. The hotel is very comfortable and the food excellent while the staff are very friendly and helpful. There were only 12 Brits staying at Easter week with the rest of the guests being primarily German and Austrian families but that was actually quite nice. It was easy to get to the slopes in the morning as the free local buses stop about 50 yards from the hotel and take you to the bus station which is right by the lift station so you can go up to the local slopes or alternatively catch the free ski buses to the neighbouring resorts. Bad Hofgastein is centrally placed in the Gastein valley and the free ski bus gives easy access to the higher resorts of Bad Gastein and Sport Gastein or the lower resort of Dorf Gastein all are worth visiting for the skiing. Surprisingly for Easter week the resorts seemed quite quiet and there were no significant queues at any of the lifts. This may have been due to the weather which was fantastic sunshine but way too hot (21 degrees mid-mountain one day!) which meant the snow was getting soft and slushy for the afternoons but we still had great skiing in the mornings. My one gripe is that the local buses around Bad Hofgastein are not very Apres-ski friendly as they finish quite early. On several nights we had to walk back to the hotel from the bus station but it was a pleasant 10 - 15 minute walk across the park albeit in ski boots and carrying skis. To sum up we very much enjoyed Bad Hofgastein and the Hotel Rauscher and Paracelsus. Would definitely like to go again in the future and first choice would be to stay in the same hotel.

Ski HotelStayed a week at end of Jan 2017 - booked via Crystal. Only one other Brit party there at the time, Id say they were less than 50% full in fact. The rest of the guests seemed to be there for long weekends rather than full weeks. Welcome from reception was extremely friendly and check in was fast and efficient, so much that we managed to get to the slopes on the afternoon of arrival. Room was fairly standard in size and cleanliness for a ski hotel. The meals were also standard Austrian fair although there were greater alternate options of evening meal than Ive seen before. The food was filling and tasty. Breakfast buffet gave the usual choices of cereal, cold meats etc however unusually the only hot food on offer was boiled eggs, usually there would be a variation say scrambled eggs plus sausage or meatballs, so this was disappointing. Spa - located in the basement was great, choice of 3 sauna and 1 steam room. Usual Austrian rules (no costumes) mean the spas are often under used, and at times we had the place to ourselves (great for post slope recovery) but also guests should learn etiquette and speak in a whisper not yell ! Ski and boot room is accessible via the car park. Room was very warm, even with radiators off, window cracked open and snow outside it was still roasting overnight The ski buss stops about 2 mins walk from the hotel and takes you to the main Lift and buses to alternate nearby resorts. If you prefer to walk its about 10/15 minute walk. Centre of town is about a 6 minute walk. Bad Hofgastein itself is small and quiet, there is not a massive apres ski scene. The age profile of guests in town is certain on the older side. It certainly suits my wife and myself. There is one thing potential guests need to know that isn't in the 2016 Crystal brochure. The hotel welcomes pets. As my wife has pet allergies that sadly were triggered in the hotel. There is nothing wrong with their pet policy and no reason why it should cease, but no matter how hard they may try allergy sufferers may still be affected. Therefore I recommend this hotel ONLY to anyone who does not have pet allergies.

Convienient Location and Good ValueJust arrived back from a ski holiday booked via Crystal staying at the Rauscher. Other guests were mainly Austrian or German staying long weekends so the hotel was quiet during the week. We enjoyed our stay and although the staff don't speak very much English we found them to be helpful and cheerful throughout. There is a nice restaurant serving a breakfast buffet in the morning and a table service is provided for the 4 course evening dinner. There is a small bar area situated in the middle of the dining area (non smoking). Other facilities include a great wellness area with lots of facilities and not over busy. The hotel is situated very close to the ski bus stop and it is only a short walk into the centre of town. We would definitely recommend this hotel and we look forward to returning during 2017/2018 ski season.

Did not suit me. ( Dog Allergy)Booked with Crystal Ski as I have with a lot of other ski holidays . Checked out these reviews before booking and they seemed fine . Nearer the date of holiday had another look at reviews when i spotted one which mentioned a dog in the hotel and then checked hotels own website and found it was pet friendly. Nothing on the Crystal website so contacted Crystal to mention this as I am allergic to pet dander ( Google this if you do not know what it is ) Crystal came back and said the hotel says no dogs have been in the room you will be allocated. Felt a bit more relaxed and went to enjoy. Upon arrival was met by a dog in reception and later same dog in dining room where it wandered around in and out the kitchen and all round the public areas. This was because it is the hotels owners dog which they failed to mention when i raised my allergy issues.. Other guest would stroke the dog in the dining room during dinner every night filling the air around me with dander and giving me allergy issues. The other thing that did not suit me was the time of dinner as it was between 6-7pm . On a ski holiday this is far too early as by the time you get bus back to hotel it was 5-5.30 and they had a wellness area which you hardly had time to use..Trying to fit in a visit to the shop was like supermarket sweep. Don't think the early dinner is all the time as other guests said it was till 8 week before.so must have depended on staffing or something else that week so might not be often. Other thing too mention the bar closes very early. 9.30 on a couple of nights but again that might have been just that week. That is why it did not suit me but other guests loved the early dinner as they were in by 615 and the kids loved the dog. The hotel was as most Austrian hotels very clean and is of a good standard.. Food and services were also as expected of a good standard . Just one thing it says hot and cold breakfast but the hot bit is just boiled eggs ,nothing else hot. Ski bus stop just up road a couple of mins walk and comes every tens mins at peak times.

An avarage hotelThis hotel rather small family hotel located in a "quiet zone", so don't expect too much of entertainment in the afternoon or evening. Our room was a good size with a balcony. The building itself and furniture in the hotel need a proper renovation, but they keep all the rooms clean. The staff is nice and very helpfull. The food is OK, nothing more. For dinner you can choose between 2 or 3 different menus. What we found quite dissapointing was breakfast since no warm dishes are served. Additionally, don't expect to get a proper coffee there. Only a sort of "expresso" is served at the hotel which made our "female" part of the group quite unhappy. There is also a small bar, which we never visited as it seems to be closed in the evening. We have regularly visited spa area located in the basement with many sauna in steam rooms. Quite great area. To go to the ski slopes you have to take a bus. The nearest bus station is some 50m away from the hotel with buses leaving every 10 minutes or so. All in all, small, clean mid-range hotel with limited offer and reasonable price.
