Not Ryokan, just a business hotel in touristy area

If you expect Ryokan style hospitality, they are not planned to offer that. One upside is a public bath reminds you onsen atmosphere. Breakfast is strictly served with good standard quality of ryokan but wouldn't amaze you either. If you pay more, you will get Tatami room with Onsen dinner but I wasn't intrigued to try some more.

    Nice hotel in arashiyama

A tranquil are on the outskirts of Kyoto in beautiful arashiyama. Well connected to public transport and in a quite area of Kyoto in walking distance to the bamboo forest. Nice, relaxing Japanese bath after a day of sightseeing. Please book dinner in the hotel in advance, since all places in the area close early at around 19.30, last order.

Wonderful location, beautiful hotel with bad management

Previously visited Arashiyama and found this hotel is located in great place but not pricey. Therefore, I booked this hotel for my second trip to Arashiyama a month ago. I planned my route to go directly from Kansai airport to Arashiyama by last direct JR train. Therefore, the time of arrival to hotel was around midnight. The problem was...door to the lobby was shut and nobody was there. I found a doorbell and pushed it several times. None appeared. Then I found a side door to the kitchen which was surprisingly open. But nobody was there too. I and my family waited there for around half hour and a staff(not a receptionist, but an old management crew) finally appeared and lead us to the lobby and called the receptionist. We managed to enter the room around 1 a.m. For my hundreds of trips to various hotels, I sometimes arrived at 2 a.m.or later, but there always was a receptionist at that time. I cannot understand how the hotel closed its door at midnight especially when their booked customer haven't arrived yet. The hotel was beautiful. Its inner garden and garden toward the river were both wonderful. View from the room was also fine. Room was old and small but it can be allowed for its wonderful loacation and relatively low rate. However, the long night waiting was a nightmare. I was puzzled especially because there was no alternative hotels or way to go back to downtown at that remote place.

    Nice hotel in Arashiyama

Nice location close to river and walking distance to most attractions. It advertising as Ryokan but it more as hotel. Hot spring at the lower level is nice but not perfect. Breakfast and dine are very nice typical Japanese. Nice garden around the Hotel. Arashiyama are part of Kyoto around 20 minute ride by train to Kyoto center.

    Ryokan

This was my first time that I have ever stayed in a traditional Ryokan. Ideally situated near the river, there were many sightseeing areas to visit like the path of Bamboo. We had booked one of the Japanese garden rooms and it did not disappoint. The view was of a secluded woodland scene and even though it was overcast, it was serene and magical. The check in was professional and very courteous, with English speaking staff which was very helpful. There was an air of calm about the whole place that was welcomed after the noise of Kyoto!! Our room was spacious and very clean with tea and coffee awaiting. We had the Japanese set meal for dinner which was delicious. Whilst eating, the staff made our beds ready so we literally fell into the soft covers afterwards. Breakfast was part traditional and part buffet but excellent. The facilities here are very good with an indoor onsen for those that like bathing. Fabulous experience. Would highly recommend!!
