    Not much.

We were excited for our first trip to Big Sky but this place was extremely underwhelming. First when we arrived and entered the building to check in, we were greeted by a woman who wasnt wearing a mask, which is just a terrible look for a hotel front desk employee. Despite arriving 40 minutes after check in time, our room wasnt ready so we sat at the bar to kill time. The room itself was not much. Our bed was basically caved in, there was hair in the shower, and when I dropped a chapstick and it rolled under the bed, I bent down to pick it up and the floor was covered in a thick layer of dust with some tissues and an empty bag of chips. We ate at the restaurant one night for dinner. It was fine. Breakfast, not so much. Finally, most disappointing was that there was an event tent sent up which completely ruined our view of the property for the weekend. We didnt see any events taking place, but the tent was up and was a complete eyesore. Huge bummer.

    Peace on the river

I've been to the Rainbow Ranch Lodge twice in the past six months and cannot recommend it enough. It is now my most favorite place to go. The pandemic has halted much of my travel, but my husband and I decided to drive (from Michigan) over the summer of 2020 for our first vacation during the pandemic. We wanted to find a place that would serve a safe escape. Rainbow Ranch Lodge was everything we wanted and more -- we felt safe, the ranch respected all of the appropriate/required COVID protocols and we had the most relaxing and peaceful stay. Over the summer we stayed in Otter (my favorite room on property) and enjoyed golfing in Big Sky, hiking in Yellowstone, hiking by the Ranch. It was perfect. And the Ranch is in an ideal location if you want to visit Yellowstone during the summer months -- it's an easy drive to the West Entrance. The food at the restaurant is to die for - I've had 4 dinners there and every meal was better than the last. I'm a vegetarian and very picky and loved every single bite of food. In February 2021 we went back for my birthday and stayed in Elk (pondside) and Wolverine (riverside.) I actually enjoyed the area more in the winter -- the grounds are beautiful in the snow, the weekend we were there it was very quiet and the Ranch was able to set us up with the most wonderful recommended excursions (Yellowstone Dog Sled Adventures, Gallatin River Guides and hiked to Ousel Falls.) In terms of accommodations, I preferred our stay at podside Otter (more luxurious) my husband preferred our riverside room Wolverine (more quiet, more remote, great view of river.) But you really can't go wrong. Finally, the best part of the Rainbow Ranch is the ownership/staff. Scott is incredible. He understands how to run a business as well as offer impeccable customer service. The staff from the hotel and the restaurant is fantastic, but a special shoutout to Sarah who went above and beyond to make our trip special. If you're looking for a peaceful and luxurious place to stay, this is it. I can't wait to go back again later this year!

Didnt receive the room we reserved, customer service wasnt what it use to be!

Did not get the river side view room we reserved. Werent able to check in until 3:45pm. Their bar wasnt open so we had to find another establishment to wait...The room didnt have chairs or a couch, which the other room we reserved had, my husband brought in an outdoor Adirondack chair for me to sit on, I have a bad back & could NOT have sat on the bed for the 2 days & nights we were there, which is what my husband had to do. The chair was in the way the whole trip. The refrigerator door was broken so our glass bottles fell out when we opened the refrigerator. The plug in the tub wouldnt seal, so the water didnt stay in & they never replaced that, they didnt have enough wood for us or the main fireplace in the lobby for the first days we were there. Very disappointed!

Perfect blend of rustic hideaway with modern conveniences

Wonderful, highlight of our road trip. Came in winter, service was great, heated floors in bathroom, in-room fireplace with wood provided, food at the restaurant was the best steak we had in Montana! Good wifi, gorgeous view of the river from the back porch. Just a great little getaway. Highly recommended.

    50/50

This place could easily be a true gem, but there are some significant failures that ruins everything. Pros: the place is located within 1 hour drive from west Yellowstone entrance and 20 minutes drive to Big Sky ski resort. Both roads are scenic. You are waking up and could listen to the birds songs. All rooms are facing the forest not the road. The road is super close and you hear it, but its not a big deal. The whole idea of the place is perfect. Some of the staff is really doing 1000% of their job Cons: housecleaning really ruins the place- when you do not do the proper cleaning for a certain period of time the dust destroys furniture, the wash basin is no longer white etc. one day the housecleaning took dirty towels from my bathroom and place them on the sofa on top of some of my clean clothes !!!! Ive also experienced strange situation with overbooking - Ive made a reservation on the web site, moreover my credit card was immediately charged for the full payment. And after two days Ive received an interesting email saying that we are sorry but the room that Ive booked is not available. When I called the property a very ignorant lady told me that its not the lodge problem its the fault of some service provider that they are using for the booking process. And zero attempt to either apologize or help. And March is one of the highest seasons, all hotels are full in the proximity of Big Sky. Finally one of the managers a very nice person resolved the issue, also applied some discount as an apology. But anyway, how in the first place all these could happened? And that manual management doesnt do good for any company/ resort, since the processes should work. If the place will resolve the staff/ housekeeping/ booking issues the place would be a gem
