    Rochester Riverside - Awful experience

We had travelled to Rochester with our best friends for an overnight and a comedy show. Upon arrival the restaurant /bar was not open at 4pm on a Thursday, escalator not working. We drop our bags and run off to dinner /show and a night out. We get back to our room pull back the sheets to find a 6inch switch blade tucked in the top sheet. Shockingly we figure the person that stayed prior tucked it in and forgot which means the bed wasnt stripped and cleaned. Our friends room the fitted sheet was inside out, patio doors to balcony screwed shut. We bolted out first thing the next morning. After heading towards home (2 1/2 hr drive ) an hour into it I realized I forgot my coat. I called with the hour and got the run around ( well Ck, asking housekeeping, Ill talk to security blah blah ) Ive called back 1 -2 times a day for 2 weeks and nothing... lots of promises about cking who was in our room, who cleaned and no results. This was not a cheap hotel ($150ish a night US which is 200ish Canadian) NOT impressed we didnt book a fleabag hotel but thats exactly what we felt like upon leaving Pissed from Niagara ( Canada)

    Stay somewhere else!

We recently stayed at the Rochester Riverside hotel and I would not recommend it. The parking garage was terrible, entering the hotel was not great either. Gross carpet and ceiling tiles, musty smell. The room was dirty. We pulled the sheets back to find a used hair tie with hair in the middle of the bed. Clearly, our sheets were not changed from the previous guest. I got new sheets and made the beds myself. They did not provide enough towels or washcloths, I asked for some at the desk and was told they didn't have any but they would bring some to my room...they never came. The staff was nice but this hotel is in serious need of attention.

Stay away until updates are made

I stayed at the riverside hotel for a conference in November, hoping to save my employer a bit of money by staying at this hotel. Do not be fooled, the price is cheaper for a reason. Many amenities are sorely outdated, including the lack of dining which altogether was nonexistent other than an overpriced buffet breakfast. The staff running the conference complained incessantly about how this hotel never set things up properly and how the conference rooms always had electric and audio/ visual problems. My personal concern was for their electrical and wiring. Having to plug my phone into the bedside lamp outlet due to a lack of other usable outlets by the bedside, the outlet preceeded to fry my 2 month old Samsung phone charger. A large pop and a burning smell accompanied the electoral short shortly after plugging in, luckily my phone was undamaged and I was still awake to unplug. This was at 10:30 pm, so I plugged the usb cable into the tv to charge for the night. The next morning I went to the front desk to report the problem and inquire about what the hotel intended to do about the burned out charger. The front desk manager became very combative and asked me why I did not call down to maintenance when it happened (as if I should've known this was the protocol at 10:30pm). She then asked if I had the receipt for the charger, which of course I do not carry around in case of incidental damage. Due to not have a receipt, she informed me that there was nothing the hotel could do and that likely the charger fried of its own accord, even though the bedside lamp was strobing every time it was turned on after my charger was fried. Do not stay here, there are better places to stay in Rochester. Although a bit pricier elsewhere, in the long run you will be much happier.

    Not well maintained

My husband and I stayed at the Riverside Rochester after booking several months in advance for Allstate NYSSMA conference. We arrived about 2pm and the hotel lobby was very cold(it was December). We were given a room with no hot water and the heat fan ran continuously, although the room was very cold when we entered. I called the front desk and and engineer was sent to our room.We were told by the engineer(who reported that he was in another room fixing a problem there) that he would re-set the temperature for the water and we would have hot water in about 10-15 minutes. As for the blower, he said that was the way it worked. I requested some extra blankets but was told they didn't have any. There were only light quilts on the beds. My husband and I had wanted to take showers but instead went out to explore the city before attending our daughter's Allstate concert at the Eastman Theater. We returned approximately 11 pm, passing overflowing garbage in the can in the lobby, to find the room stifling hot, The fan continued to blow. There was no hot water. I called the front desk. The man there said, "I guess we need to move you to another room as there is no engineer right now." I asked if there was a room as I knew the hotel was full. He said, "yes, I will call you back" We waited for about 20 minutes. I finally called the front desk again. I asked about the room. He said, "yes, I have one. Come down and I will give you the key." We had to pack up our belongings and carry them down to the lobby where we were directed to go to a different room 3 floors below from the original at almost midnight. No one helped us with our bags or offered to meet us at the new room with the key instead of going all the way to the lobby. The new room was better, working heater and hot water. However the rug had multiple large stains on it.There were still no extra blankets and only light quilts. There was only the minimum amount of towels in the bathroom. I heard that it is under new management and they are looking to sell it for development. Running a clean, maintained hotel with decent service is obviously not a priority. It was clear that there was not enough staff to man the front desk or to clean the floors as they were quite dirty. Chipping paint was visible on many fixtures, I would not recommend this hotel.
