  Proof that details are important

  We stay at a lot of Choice Hotels so we have a lot to compare this stay to. I was a little surprised given the reviews I read of this hotel that it wasn't better. In fact I saw that it has won several awards, which I don't understand given our experience. The first thing that we experienced was an odd smell in the room when we first arrived. My husband thought it smelled like smoke . Although clean, this room had a lot of deferred maintenance issues. The bathtub looked dirty initially, on closer inspection it just needed replaced, the surface of the bathtub had been worn away in several places. There was also an area (hole) that had been worn away on the wall. The breakfast was the exact same every day. In other Choice Hotels we have stayed there was some variety. In addition, the juice machine was out of order and instead of buying some orange juice/apple juice to serve they just placed an out of order sign on it. Not great when you have kids. The staff was always polite, courteous, and helpful. I'm disappointed I spent 10,000 points per night for this stay. It definitely was NOT worth it.

  Clean room and friendly staff!

  My husband and I had stayed here one other time with no issues, so we were confident booking it for a quick overnight trip to the casino in Metropolis. The lobby area looked and smelled clean. The lady at the front desk was very friendly and personable. We were even given snacks and bottled water on check-in. The room was also very clean and comfortable, and a decent size for a standard king. The bed was very comfortable and everything in the room worked well (A/C, TV, fridge, sink, etc.). There were a few minor cosmetic issues (stain on the ceiling, scrapes on the finish of the tub), but nothing all that concerning. The vent fan in the bathroom was a little noisy when you first turned it on, but it went away after a minute or so. We did not take advantage of the breakfast or the pool, so I can't comment on either of those. Overall, our stay was great and we'll definitely stay here again when in the area.

  Nice stay

  This is the second time staying here , we stayed for 3 nights . Was clean , bed was comfortable and was quiet . Mask are required inside the hotel , they are still serving breakfast - you have to take back to your room , pool is still open - you have to check in at the front desk to use . We will stay here again when we are in town .

  Roaches!

  We stayed in room 112 Oct 15-16 2020. At first our room looked very large and sparkling clean. That was until we saw a guy in the picture I attached. Unfortunately, he wasnt alone. By that time kids were sleeping and we wanted to let them sleep. We went and showed a roach to the front desk. They said they were sorry but they didnt offer any compensation or to move us to another room. My husband and I spent the night killing roaches. Finally, at 5 AM we woke up the kids and left. I definitely wouldnt recommend this hotel to anyone else.

  Really?

  How this place received awards is beyond me. Its a VERY average motel and not worth the $80 plus dollars they charge on some days. We stayed when it was in the $60 range and it was just tolerable. The walls are very thin and you can hear every door slam. The checkout is at 11am. Even if you are a Choice Priveleges Gold or Elite member you will not receive a later checkout as most Choice properties offer. This place is special - they charge $25 for a late checkout. I dont think the staff should start running the vacuums and bumping their carts up and down the hall before the 11am checkout when people are trying to rest before hitting the road. There are some cosmetic issues in the rooms such as torn wallpaper and dim lighting in the bathroom. Room felt clean enough. You have to take breakfast back to your room, but the breakfast area is a free for all with lots of serving utensils that everyone is touching. And even though masks are required there were guests getting their breakfast without wearing masks. Waffle maker was broken and at 8:30am hot food was not replenished.
