Nice, well located.Massive room. high ceiling, fambulous location. This basically sumarrises the Hotel. I stayed in room 1 that fronts Lydiard Street and whilst the view was nothing special (please clean the windows!) the room was. It had an entrance area and the modern bathrrom was a capsule built within the 1800's room - sounds a bit weird but it works - not a great fan of showers in bathtubs though!. The area on the otherside of the bathroom was a large bedroom. The room was vast and well furnished. Whilst it was a large room it was well heated/cooled. The place was super quiet even though it was fully booked and a band playing at the pub nearby. Parking is accesssed via a laneway and is undercover. Dining options abound nearby. The room wasn't cheap but it was good and is recommended.

ExcellentWe stayed her over Easter break. Loved it here, Jodie at reception was friendly and helpful. Next time I hope to be able to book the family room, I booked this little trip only weeks before Easter so was lucky to even get a room, we had the king spa suite and a queen room as there is 5 of us so we needed 2 rooms. Rooms were clean, comfortable and beautiful. Cant wait till next time.

Lack of communication skills & sadly worst visit here everWe have stayed at this hotel several times over the past few years and each visit seems to get worse. Central location and secure off street parking were the draw cards. Supposedly there is a parking space for each room - unfortunately not this time & we really needed it. It took 45 minutes to sort out a parking space down the road at the George hotel. Potholes galore, secure? No, definitely not. Off street? yes. I had called ahead as we were going to be a late check in, but then tried to resolve parking issue over the phone with what turned out to be the pubs kitchen staff turned into a complete farce. Then when parking space finally found & lugging our bags down the road and up the stairs to our room to find the tap in the bathroom sink was completely loose. Needless to say, were taking our business elsewhere in future. Only need to stay a couple of times a year, but theres plenty of options in Ballarat.

Excellent, central spot for pleasant stay.... even without windows. There's three major advantages with this hotel. 1 - the central location. It puts you in the middle of the the busiest part of the city where you have access to most of the restaurants and interesting sites on foot, or easy access to public transport. 2 - While it is central and good for walking, the car-parking facilities which are located below the rooms and behind a locking door at the back of the facility, are better than what is provided by the competing locations nearby. 3 - It is a practical mix of old and new. While the older section is really only of use when you come in, or you use the function rooms and facilities, this means that the rooms you stay in - and largely sleep in, are in a newer extension. This means roomier and better insulation. The downside is - that in my room (room 12) there wasn't a physical window to see out of. The room itself has a window interestingly set in the ceiling to allow sunlight in that has a mechanical shutter to close it with for privacy from, you know, perverted birds that may fly over and want to get an eye-full. Well - that and to drop the amount of light when you don't need it. The rooms are furnished with faux antique-ware to give it that 'heritage' look. It was all serviceable, clean and nice. The bathroom in contrast is much more more modern. Which, really.. .you want as it is a functional space. The biggest issue here though is that the shower seems like an ever-tightening phone-booth that is likely to trigger the claustrophobic. As a big guy, it was really, really tight. Oh well! I best run my butt around the book a few times so I can fee less of squeeze to get into the shower doors. Wifi was, well. pretty much the average you expect from hotels. I wouldn't be using this space for a work-from-home retreat for long periods of the day. The TV was a surprisingly decent size, and happily was connected to the network, so I could temporarily connect to a streaming service of my choice. Would I stay there again? Sure. No problems. Next time I wouldn't mind trying to hang out at the spa, which seemed shut down. Very happy with my stay.

Not a heritage hotel - overpriced and unreliable wifiThe description gives the impression that it is a heritage hotel. It is not. Entry to the check-in desk is through the stone facade of an old bank. The hotel however is an entirely modern, ugly structure located adjacent to the facade. Rooms are arranged in a row with narrow passage leading to car parks linked to each room. Rooms have one window that opens onto the passage. For privacy the curtains need to be drawn closed. The interior of my room was bland, furnishings tired, and in need of refresh. Bathroom needs renovating. The towels are brown and faded. It was cold the two nights I stayed, and the old combination heater/cooler was quite noisy, and ineffective. Fortunately, I found the bed had an electric blanket fitted. The WIFI was abysmal. It kept fading out. The fabulous Art Gallery of Ballarat directly across the road has excellent (and free) WIFI. I was so disappointed with the hotel that I checked out two nights early and went somewhere else way better and cheaper.
