  Lovely Dinner Out

  Tonight we went to The Oaks Restaurant for dinner and it was superb. We started with a garlic loaf which was delicious and then the Scotch Fillet with mash and slaw with pepper sauce for me, and hubby had Scotch Fillet with fries and seasonal veg and pepper sauce. Perfection. Then we both had the duo of sorbet with fruit. OMG. That was even better than sliced bread. It was divine. We'll return.

  Never seen that before...

  Room was spacious and well appointed. The bed was comfortable. Parking was a bit tight but all was going well until I went to make a coffee. A sign on the in-room fridge stated 'fresh milk available in the hallway'! About 5 doors down and around the corner I found a fridge with a whole lot of empty glass bottles and a 2ltr of blue top in the door. Unfortunately the bottles are not washed well. Self service milk? Never seen that before.

  Good Value

  Comfy beds, nice rooms, everything you need for a good sleep. A bit strange the milk is communal and outside in the corridor but maybe it's a money saving thing? Really friendly staff. Only wish would be better parking but I was there on a reasonably quiet night so no issue for me. Room was really clean and well maintained. Will def stay again.

  Accommodating staff

  Located near Wanganui Collegiate this hotel is not in walking distance to CBD but there is a cafe on corner. Room was booked for 3 persons but there was only towels and cups for two.Decor was dated and the cleaning was not up to standard eg dirty oven and glasses.Dust on skirting boards.Only one spare pillow and all pillows were substandard.Fold in half and feel your fingers through other side. In bathroom there was one tiny soap and tiny bottle shampoo. Movie channels did not work and we went through all channels.No paper on doorstep in morning. The courtyard was very nice and the staff that were on at the time were very accommodating.

  Good if basic accommodation

  Booked for 1 night on our way to Wellington. Friendly welcome, food in the evening and for breakfast was of a reasonable standard. Room was basic but sufficed for 1 night. A fair walk from the town (hence why we ate in the hotel). Also note this hotel is next to the railway but we didn't see / hear more than one train in the time we were there.
