    Reasonable standard

Stayed at Qiming Holiday Hotel during recent World Long Distance Triathlon Championships. Staff speak no English, but there were volunteers at the hotel associated with the event who assisted. There are 3 restaurants but only one small one was opened with very limited choices (not even rice!) Breakfast was a different story though and there were quite a few choices. Rooms are quite large and comfortable. Wifi is very slow and often drops out. 30 television channels but only one that has English speaking shows some of the time. Heating in the floors and air con seemed to work fine. Great view over the ocean from large windows. I found the bed to be quite comfortable and the bathroom okay (although the liquid soap in the bathroom was foul - maybe take your own). There is a phone in the room but hotel staff had no idea of cost for international calls when enquiries were made through an interpreter. No complimentary coffee or milk (which us westerners are use to in hotel rooms). I managed to buy some locally as well as some ice cream but there was no teaspoon in the room. I went down to the restaurant and asked to borrow a spoon to take the room but they refused to allow this. Maybe they didn't understand me. Aside from the event volunteers, it's rare to find anyone in Weihai who spoke any English. Local bus passes by close to hotel and is very cheap for a trip into town, probably a better option than taxi.

    Very far from western standards

We stayed at this hotel because of the pool however when we were there it was drained and it looked like it had not been used in quite some time. This was very disappointing to our kids and we would have stayed at the Team Canada hotel where the rest of my team was staying but for the pool. There was a playground and you could walk down to the rocky shore. No one at the hotel spoke English but there were 2 fantastic volunteers from the International Triathlon Union who were extremely nice and helped out in every way possible (including dealing with getting us a room because the hotel did not have our reservation). The hotel people also seemed very nice but they did not understand us. While there was a decent selection for breakfast, the western foods were not great - ie. cold sausages. There was cereal but it was not refilled throughout breakfast. The room had a very good view and it was pretty large but it was also very basic. There was a kitchen which we used. Most of our meals were purchased at a supermarket in town. We took a bus to get there and it was very convenient. The whole family found the beds extremely uncomfortable. I had to put a pillow under me in order to sleep (which was not ideal before a race that took me almost 8 hours). The hotel was cheap though.
