Very good but some room for improvementThis was our second visit to Astypalea and this time we decided to stay at The Pylaia, having visited for lunch on our previous visit. The hotel itself is very nicely done in a classic but contemporary Greek style. We had a junior suite on one of the lower levels/terraces of the hotel which was perfect for us as it provided more privacy and an unobstructed sea view. The room itself was spacious and had a Coco-Mat bed (these are excellent and its great so many Greek hotels are now choosing this brand). An area for improvement would be the cleanliness - whilst the room wasnt dirty, the daily cleaning didnt seem that thorough, particularly in the bathroom which meant there was often a musty smell, which was unfortunate. The bar and restaurant, which is also where breakfast is served, is great. Stylishly furnished with great views. The breakfast offering was good but a little more variety would have been good. We only ate in the restaurant one evening and the offering was great. Whilst all the staff were very friendly and helpful, given that this hotel certainly pitches itself as top end (whether or not it achieves this across the board is debatable) they need to up their front desk service. For example, the one day we wanted to book a car transfer to another beach we had to ask several times with a fair degree of back and forth and when we checked out there were several mistakes on our final bill. Overall this is the Pylaia is a great option to be within walking distance to both the Chora and Livadi beach (both of which have excellent restaurant options) but it could do with sharpening up its housekeeping and front desk offering.

Amazing view. Excellent Service.Very kind people. Great services (massage and spa, breakfast, accommodation, plus very helpful with dinner and auto reservations). The view from our room was amazing and the room itself was very luxurious and clean.

Good, but could be betterThis is a beautiful hotel, very friendly staff and amazing views. However, there were a few minor things that spoiled the experience and with a little thought could have been addressed. We arrived and were shown to our room whch was lovely, very contemporary with a gorgeous balcony and view and on the surface looked wonderful. We were told that if we needed anything, we just had to call reception. Whilst the guy was talking us through the facilities, he realised the phone didn't work, so took it away with him and promised to bring a replacement later that day. Despite several attempts we didnot receive a replacment phone for the duration of our stay. Not such a big deal, but a little irritating - the hotel was practically empty when we stayed, we only saw 2 other rooms occupied - so no idea why the phone wasn't replaced. On our first night we had trouble spleeping due to the toilet constantly filling up the cistern, so a constant sound of water dripping and gushing. We couldn't phone so the next morning we let reception know and they said they would have someone fix it asap. Needless to say, it was not fixed during our stay. Finally, our room was facing the cleaners room and they would often sit outside late at night chatting and laughing, which is fine but it was almost as if they were in our room. If the hotel was mostly vacant, why place us in a room near to where the cleaners need to congregate? So. despite the beautiful setting, mostly lovely staff and amazing breakfast, which is really one of the best we've had - I'm afraid we wouldn't return.

Splendid location, impeccable amenities, fantastic experience !Its our 10th year in a row here as a family (we ve never imagined we could repeat a hotel and a destination for so many years!) and we cannot have enough of it. Pylaia is set in an incredible location overlooking a small bay, the sea and the top of the castle, this design boutique hotel is a real gem in Astypalaia. The rooms are spacious & comfortable with contemporary decoration and a beautiful balcony, offering privacy and opportunity to relax. The hotel offers two nice pools with a bar, and a spa built in a natural rock-cave, offering various amenities. The rich, delicious greek breakfast at the roof-top terrace is a true hit and a no-miss, later transformed into a fine-dining restaurant with a lounge-bar. Service is good & professional, while the front-desk manager (Konstantinos) is extremely helpful and always kind, eager to turn our wishes into a reality ;-) To our family, Astypalaia wouldnt feel the same without our stay and experience at Pylaia.
