Simply sensationalWe had read so many rave reviews of Pumphouse Point in the travel media, not just as a first class wilderness retreat, but also in terms of yet another fantastic example of eco tourism where the creator's vision has successfully managed to transform a majestic yet, decommissioned and neglected water hydro utility into a beautiful retreat in a magnificent location. The result being a magnificent blend of new and old where the casual observer would be forgiven for being oblivious as to what awaits them beyond the fading facade. The rooms are minimalist yet modern ,fantastic beds and amazing views of Lake St Clair upon which the building sits. Our room had a couch and a TV neither of which we used as the emphasis on a stay at the pumphouse is very much about enjoying what mother nature has to offer, Guests have free use of the row boats, as well as e-bikes the latter of which we highly recommend. Alternatively simply curli up in front of the log fire with a good book or card game or just absorb a stunning sunset over the lake. in every fridge, there is a complimentary larder of Tassie pate, meats, cheeses etc. You are also supplied with free use of picnic sets and backpacks to take with you as you explore. You simply must request your complimentary sourdough bread loaf which is delivered to your door warm to complete your picnic. We really liked the idea of a communal dinner where we met fellow guests/travelers with whom we exchanged stories, travel tips and experiences. We found all the staff very attentive, welcoming and helpful. Nothing was a problem with all requests accommodated with a smile. For those of you who are keen to get close with some of the wildlife, there are abundant opportunities. We had close encounters with wallabies, a couple of echidnas and a wombat over 24 hours. In summary, a great experience where the pumphouse team have done a wonderful job of creating a sensational minimal eco impact, high end destination in an absolutely delightful and tranquil location. That you so much Priya, Simon an the pumphouse team for making our stay one to remember. Top location, top service. Five Stars..... we will definitely return.

2021 - Year of being adaptable !We recently made a last minute decision to visit Tasmania from northern NSW & were thrilled there was a room available staying in the Pumphouse which had been on our radar for a while. Due to circumstances out of our control we were unable to take up that booking and were forced to cancel. We were pretty disappointed but how quickly things can change - the wonderful reception team called us back to advise that the retreat was available for the next 2 nights. While this was another level in price we jumped at the opportunity knowing it would a long time before we might be able to revisit the area. So instead of staying in the pumphouse on the lake we had a beautiful secluded, architecturally designed, private villa overlooking it. Staying there was definitely a wow moment with superb food, wine selection, amenities & the pristine wilderness location. A big shout out to Freya (spelling?) Ellie & all the staff who go above and beyond to make the experience as good as it is and a special thanks to Carla for solving a minor but important issue for us. Definitely a must do visit if you can.

BrilliantA special experience deep in Tasmania's western wilderness with the emphasis on outdoors, yet luxurious. The staff were all brilliant- all helpful, all warm. They look like they love working here, which is a testament to management. We used the bikes, did some long walks, but sitting by the fireplaces with complimentary cocktails balance the hard work. Food was excellent and the drinks were well priced.

Lake StayA great position and a special structure to stay in over the Lake! Our welcome was wonderful & warm (literally!) The fireplace was lit and a glass of sparkling awaiting us. There was torrential rain on our arrival but the Pumphouse Point was well equipped to handle this and drove us in a cart with a zipped enclosure to get us to our accommodation in a dry condition! Our room was beautiful with quality skin products (full sized!) which was really very lovely. The fridge and mini-kitchen were wonderfully stocked and equipped for us to help ourselves to lunch with local produce. The service and staff were amazing and wonderfully friendly and service focused. The food was fabulous & plentiful. Pre-dinner drinks for all to mix was a nice touch. Only a couple of minor points - the structure was in need of a de-cobwebbing but apparently this is not allowed for heritage purposes. This in no way reflects on Pumphouse Point and would be a sense of frustration for the owners & management. The communal style dining is great at times but sometimes it is nice to have the option of just being "a couple" without having to be with others at dinner. Our room whilst it was wonderful, it was a little small with too much furniture which made circulation space limited - especially walking around the bed in the middle of the night on the way to the bathroom! A wonderfully special place to stay!

Standout Accommodation but needs work on the food.Pumphouse Point is a wonderful place to just chill out for a few days amid amazing scenery. The rooms are superb great beds and the best bathrooms, though, again, like most places these days, hardly any room to hang clothes. The best perk here is the larder they stock in your room as part of the room rate wonderful cheese, crackers, chocolates etc. Everything you need for lunch or a picnic and they restock if you run low. The fresh sourdough, which was their signature move just ring up and it appears within the hour. And it was very good. If you do want to take a break from just gazing at the lake and wilderness there are some nice short walks right out the door, free bikes and electric bikes that will easily get you to the visitor centres, and row boats for those rare days of good weather. Staff here were superb, and go out of their way to ensure you have everything you need. The honesty bar system was great there was a good selection of wines and some spirits, soft drinks and beers. Just take what you need and add it to your tab. And prices were surprisingly good there was no attempt to gouge on a good range of wines from the modest to near the top end. Breakfast was also good, with a nice range of cereals and superb muesli, very good bread, spreads and a few hot items like bacon, eggs and baked beans. There was a good range of teas, with teapots, but for coffee you had to make do with a machine, which was adequate, but a barista would have been nice. The one disappointment was dinner. The food was not bad but not much above what youd expect from a decent conference dinner. Chicken, beef brisket, that sort of thing. Given the setting, prices and clientele, something that aimed a bit higher would make this a place youd not only want to visit, but to keep coming back to. They had no trouble catering for vegetarians, vegans and celiacs with notice, but dinner here is not a choice its a set meal every night. That said, many of the people we met were repeat visitors who loved the location, the service and the serenity. We also enjoyed the communal setting basically talk to a few people and then sit yourself down in groups of 4 or 6, choose your wine, and await the food. Our big tip would be to stay on the mainland, and look out at the lake and the pumphouse. The bar, restaurant and all the services are here, and if the weather is bad, you dont really want to be walking those hundreds of metres back and forth. There are small lounges out on the pier, but the lounge on the mainland was much better. Theres no WiFi, and phone reception was non-existent for some carriers, and marginal for the rest 2-3 bars of 3G for Telstra if you held the phone up in the right corner of your room, so dont come here expecting to work! Given what you get here the location, all the food, the bikes, the service, the rooms, the sourdough - this was a very good deal.
