  A View Of The Lake

  I only stayed at the Hotel for one night, a few days ago. Overall appearance of the hotel is pleasing and the grounds, rooms and amenities are all centered around views of the lake. Which is great, because for most of your view, the horizon is just water. Service at the patio, patio bar, restaurant (I had breakfast) and room service was efficient, punctual and the order correct. The staff are very friendly, courteous and engaging with a broad smile on the face at all times. Back to the last of the ammenities and services - Negatives- they are busy repaving, but that didnt affect the beautiful view. The lift didnt work, but thats just bad timing/luck of the draw. Positives - WiFI is robust, the rooms are modern and very clean and have everything you need, including a hairdryer for the ladies, also enough TV channels to watch if needed. To be confirmed, but I did see tour groups getting ready in the morning for a mini-Safari, so I would assume their are all types of touristy day activities for guests. Overall, very happy and I will be back

  Good location, service variable, overpriced

  This is a functional business hotel, and well located for meetings. The staff were on the whole very helpful, and moved me to a new room when I expressed dissatisfaction with my ground floor offering. One of the bar staff seems like he's been there too long and is not a good ambassador - a smile and a friendly manner isn't too much to ask in a public service job? The rooms are OK and comfortable, as you would expect from Marriott. The carpet in the ground floor room was in a poor condition. The wifi was reliable. This habit of dishing out 2 small plastic water bottles per day to every room surely needs to end? Why not large glass refillable bottles as other hotels are now using? There is no pool. There is also no lake view, despite what a previous reviewer has said! I had no noise issues as reported by others, but stayed mid-week so that may be why. You can get better deals in Kampala for $150, in hotels with pools, gardens and nicer decor, which is why I don't feel inclined to rate Protea any better than average.

  Great Ugandan Service but can improve

  Staff was great. Free transportation to/from Entebbe airport. The hotel is right on Lake Victoria and one can use the beach next door. They have a swimming pool and a pretty good gym which is actually air conditioned - a rarity I have found in host hotels, especially in Africa. Breakfast was mixed. The fresh juices were excellent and the baristas make drinks BETTER than many Italian bars (cafes). Except for the cereal and omlettes The food at breakfast though is mediocre. For two different stays I found in room internet to be usable early mornings and on occasion at other times. Internet service in the lobby is much better, but is still poor. Platinum and higher status SPG members are upgraded to suites upon availability.

  Modern comfort

  The hotel is located on a hill thats close to a shopping mall by car. Walking is also possible. I didnt try dinner inside the hotel but the Italian restaurant across the street is nice. Room is clean and large with a balcony. Nothing to complain about. I tried to use the printer in the business centre but it didnt operate smoothly. During my stay in Jan 2020, the hotel was quite empty. Not sure just low season or due to other reasons. Nothing fancy but just do the job. Wont hesitate to come back again.

  I didn't expect it to be that good honestly!

  Am not a stranger to Protea hotels in Uganda, we slept one time in Protea Entebbe and visited the place on different occasions, we also visited Protea SKyz on different occasions, from the pool to new years eve, and to my bigger surprise the Protea Kampala is the one which stands out of the 3!! at least in the food area. our first visit was last week during the Valentine's diner event, the buffet was so good and had so many varieties that both my wife & I agreed it was the best quality of food we had at protea. the Place is of course on the busy street of Acacia, many restaurants, pubs. clubs and malls are a walk to the hotel (although most will be closed at night to the Covid Curfew time). location is very good for business travellers and tourists, less for couples, who can try Protea Skyz for that with its amazing view of Kampala. The room was spacious enough, not huge but big enough to have a sitting area and another sitting area on the balcony. modern, but nothing out of the ordinary to be honest, all basic needs of a hotel are there. Morning breakfast buffet was also very nice, colorful and nice varieties. customer care is really good, all employees were nice to us. they gained us as visitors to the restaurant!! good job!
