Room was just OKWas told on arriving the room had a spa but it was not working as the room was to be renovated this was ok but the spa took up half the bedroom in one corner with a step. Not easy to get past in the night going to the bathroom otherwise the room was ok

Modern MotelWe booked a Queen room for 2 nights as we're using Foster as a base for our mini-excursion to Wilsons Prom. The place is easy to find, just before the Foster township on A440 (South Gippsland Hwy). Despite the fancy name, its just a motel but with a decent restaurant under the same roof. The motel reception is also the restaurant reception, how convenient. As we arrived on a Monday, the owner reminded us to book & that's what we did - the restaurant (called Max Cafe) for the night. Well it turned out to be a wise move: according to the locals (at Foster bottle shop) its not easy to get a decent meal Monday~Wednesday - as the local pub, The Exchange Hotel is closed. And we did look around in Foster after a short side-trip to nearby Welshpool. Indeed not a lot of hot food options in Foster, pizza & BBQ chicken (IGA or Foodtown) aside. To be fair, we are happy with Max Cafe: the steaks were nice, went well with decent wine offerings from Pizzini. Next morning we enjoyed the breakfast too: both the eggs on toast (+ sausage) for my wife & my pancakes were nice. The room itself was quite spacious & the bed comfy. Only weakness is the spa that took up space & it is not operational (owner did warn us it's not working). What's worse there's a foul smell coming out of it - probably an indication that the spa hasn't been used for a while hence the U-trap underneath dried out. Only a wild guess though but you caught my drift I suppose. Other than that, no complain.

Blood on the sheetsThe room was fine, average really. What really disappointed was find a blood stain on the top sheet square in the middle of it. We wanted to alert management so that we could get new sheets. The man on the desk said 'thanks' and let us go about our day. Not even a sorry. These things happen, I understand, but show some form of empathy, it's quite disconcerting to discover this at 11pm just before you're about to sleep in that very bed.

Customer service can be betterWe stayed for 4 days,on the first day, before checking in, we called the lodge to inform them about our check in time and check in was done through phone. Reached the lodge and it was around 7:30 pm which is 30 mins before there check in end time. We wanted to look into the reception if there are any tour brochures or information around the area. So I went and tried to open the reception door. It was closed. The owner came and opened the door. She told me that she is catching up with her friends and asked me to come next day morning. I felt the tone to be bit rude. The opening/closing hours of the reception was not clearly stated to us if it is before 8 pm. Information to pre-book for a takeaway in Max cafe was not obvious. The menu in the room's book wasn't updated. The dinner booking quickly ran out. On Monday, cafe was closed for lunch and dinner. This was informed to us only when we called the lodge for check in. With fewer options to eat around the area, these things can be communicated better to the customers prior to check in. On a positive note, the rooms were clean and the restaurant service was good especially the people who served us. The breakfast was yummy. Owners can be more friendly and communicate better to customers.

Lovely country motelTerrific country motel that gets all the important things right - friendly and efficient staff, comfy beds, clean rooms and great food at Maxs restaurant. Great reading room and sun room dining Will definitely be back
