  ANGEL GABRIEL WAS A TRUE STAR!

  Ive rated this vulnerable hotel a five star, its only worth a three, but I have my reasons for the higher value. Firstly, thirty five years ago was the last time we visited The Priest House, on our honeymoon! So many memories, not all good, but no Tripadvisor in those days! We decided to come again, the whole set up has changed ( become more cooperate) and unbeknown to us the place is now in receivership, sad times. We were greeted by a very matter of fact receptionist, who , to be fair I couldnt fault. What I could fault was the sealed envelope from the general manager explaining what had been put in place with regard the safety and cleanliness of the rooms. Anyone can write what they want, and clearly this is what the management have done. Our initial room was disgusting! Thats all Im going to say, absolutely no Covid cleaning. We were moved, and this room was fine, except the bath, how on earth can you rinse your hair under the water when the pop up plug hole is in the centre of the bath!! My bottom, and I imagine everybody elses over the years has popped up the plug and let the water out each time you slide under!!.....SHOCKING DESIGN!! Now lets mention MY TITLE,..... ANGEL GABRIEL.... WHAT AN ABSOLUTE STAR! Firstly, for Gabriel to have the enthusiasm when his future of employment is so much in jeopardy, certainly takes balls. To then cover every angle, from serving drinks, taking orders, serving dinner, and clearing away, and all on his own (receivers be ashamed) . GABRIEL, YOU WERE SUCH A SHINING STAR, and we wish you well with whatever the future holds for you.

  Birthday visit

  Overall a pleasant visit. Staff really friendly, had to move rooms due to mould around the window, which they sorted without any issues and the next room was much better. Breakfast was nice, had plenty to eat.

  Highly recommended, a very pleasant stay

  I booked for my son and I to have an overnight stay as he was due to partake in a motorbike experience at Donington Park Circuit the following day. On our arrival we were given a complementary upgrade to the main house and late checkout. The room was very spacious and the beds very comfortable. The bathroom was light and clean for the most part; there were some marks on the shower wall, which is probably because the tiles used look very difficult to clean (they have grout like flecks on them) - if I had them in my home I would probably lose my mind, so for the sanity of your housekeeping staff, I would implore you to consider changing them to something smooth! The staff could not have been more attentive, and anytime I needed something it was easy to find someone. We had dinner, despite there currently being a limited menu I felt there was still plenty of choice. Breakfast needed to be ordered the night before and there were again many options. The Priest House is only a five minute drive from the town centre, so we had time to have a quick explore before heading to the circuit the next day. We didn't explore the grounds of the hotel as the weather was very wet, so I cannot tell exactly what they comprised of, but the view of the river from our room was very nice. I didn't realise until we drove by that there is an airport in Castle Donington. I was concerned that the noise might keep us awake, we did notice a few rumblings in the evening but nothing that was disturbing, we certainly had a good nights sleep. Overall, a very pleasant stay, and I would certainly stay there again if I find myself in the area.

  Afternoon Tea

  The setting was absolutely lovely, the staff were very polite and attentive and the afternoon tea was spectacular. Its just a shame that the weather was so bad that we were unable to enjoy the vast grounds and sit by the river. I would love to return after Covid, during the summer as it was delightful. Certainly a hidden gem, just off the beaten track and needs to be enjoyed. I would recommend this hotel for afternoon tea. Also, during the current climate the Covid practices put in place were second to none. Cant praise it highly enough.

  Lovely stay

  Had a brilliant stay with my partner, we were upgraded on arrival to a room within the main house from a cottage room, which I had seen from reviews that they often do. The young man on reception was incredibly helpful on arrival and once we returned from our meal. Comfortable bed and room all round, would definitely stay again, especially for the price.
