    what an amazing place

this place took us ages to find. the sat nav had no idea where it was. we kept stopping to ask people directions and they would give you directions so far and then tell you to stop again. eventually we were heading in the right direction, we drove through a tiny Portuguese village where we had a few close shaves fitting the range rover down such small roads, but finally found the place and having no idea where we were going - we were amazed!!!!! a purpose built medieval Portuguese village - amazing place!!! we hadn't booked, popped into reception and the man could not have been more helpful, he jumped up and collected towels etc and came with us to our very own little house to show us in. the little house had its own little drive so we could put the car safe, it was a bit of a steep rocky track to get to the drive though. the house was amazing, made from rocks, so we felt like the Flintstones, it was warm and clean and beautiful. a main bedroom, bathroom, lounge with a sofa bed and dining table, a kitchen and outside patio area with small table. the kitchen was completely kitted out for self catering. we went for a walk around the village, its fab. there is a river near by too. the restaurant opened at 7.30. into reception and down the stairs, into a beautiful restaurant, with an open fire cooking areas on a stage. our food was nice, my mum and I shared goat stew and my step dad had cod cooked on the campfire, which was nice but a bit dry and had quite a few bones in. the lady who runs the village told us that the village is very popular for walkers and the walks are meant to be beautiful. but she did say that in the summer because the village is in a valley, it can reach up to temperatures of about 45.

    Perfect Get away

It´s a beautiful little village, rebuilt, and you feel like you are part of it. The houses are really charming, and you don't need to get out of there. The restaurant is so good, both food and wine, that we didn't even think about eating elsewhere. Everyone is really kind and the service is simple and unpretentious. And then there's all the nature around you. We took long walks, but even if they were short, we would find beautiful unspoiled spots. It is really worth visiting. Check the photos. They speak for themselves.

    Must Stay Here!!!

Incredible place, and a complete surprise. Very charming village settled on the slope of a river valley. It was very quiet and the only thing that could be heard was the sound of the river below and numerous streams around the village. We spent hours wandering through the village photographing the different structures and wandering on the hiking trails to innumerable ruins of old village homes dating back hundreds of years. The rooms are very modern and clean and quite comfortable. The restaurant was fantastic as well! I would stay here if planning to go to Viseu! AMAZING PLACE!!

    Just the ticket!

Enchanting, supremely comfortable, intensely atmospheric, excellent service and superb restaurant. We cycled the Ecopista do Dão from Santa Comba to Tondela and then drove up here as the highlight to our weekend. The next day we skirted the Serra, visited Belmonte, Portas do Dão and back to LIsbon. We highly recommend Povoa Dão, the whole family was delighted and we look forward to coming back soon. The summer offers other attractions I have no doubt, but as a Christmas time destination, with the open fire and the mystical atmosphere, this was exactly what we wanted. Thank you Adelaide and José for your hospitality, Murray.
