    Absolutely Perfect

I have just spent the most relaxing and delicious 4 days here at the Post Hotel in Galtur. Galtur is a very small but lovely village far away enough from the madness of Ishgl but close enough to go whenever you want to have a bit of fun. On this occasion we spent most of our time skiing on the Galtur slopes ( which are always empty) and have enjoyed the wonderful hospitality of the Post Hotel. The Hotel owner is a sincere and accommodating gentleman who will do anything to make your stay perfect. From directing us to the best ski rental to suggesting wine from the wine list; you can really trust him. He was also always present, chatting with guests, serving drinks and he even took one of our friend who had a ski accident with his car to the local doctor. This was true Austrian hospitality; the best in the world as far I am concerned. Room was austere but very well appointed. Bed was very comfortable. Bathroom was modern and the tv worked well, despite not offering enough British channels ( but that is just me!) The hotel has an immense spa in its basement which I enjoyed every evening. Steam room was amazing and so was the sauna which was the largest I had ever seen in a hotel of this size. I should however warn non-Austrian that sauna and steam in this part of Europe is fully naked and it is mixed. You have been warned. Food was on half board basis and was generous and very good. There are 2 menus to choose from : 1 vegetarian and 1 classic with choices. Everything tasted great but dont expect foam and jelly - here everything is quite classic, which I especially enjoyed. Austrian wine is delicious and we enjoyed almost every night their 2013 red St Laurent at 26 a bottle. Excellent value for money. Overall a perfect stay. I should also mention that I originally booked 2 rooms on hotels.com to find out that booking direct is actually cheaper. Better to call and get the best half board price. I was sad to leave this place and that I think is the sign of a perfect stay. I will be back and would encourage everyone to sample this perfect hotel in perfect Galtur.

    Home-like with good meals

We enjoyed several nights and excellent powder skiing in Galtur. We have been several time to this great ski area, but never to Post. Highlight is the spacious sauna area complete with nice snacks. Evening dinner was excellent as well as the breakfast, which lacked a bit of variety, ie only three types of marilade. Service was fine if a bit distant. Rustic Rooms had all we needed. We would be happy to return!

Nice hotel but customer wasn't exactly king

We were a family group of 6 hiring 2 rooms for 3 people each. The rooms were nicely appointed with beautiful views of the mountains from their balconies. The rest of the hotel was also clean and the features that ski-ers will most appreciate were a good ski and boot room in the basement and a good sauna for relaxing those tired muscles. The food particularly at the breakfast buffet was very good too but it was at the evening meals that there seemed to be a very formal approach to family dining. We wished to add one further guest to our reserved group of six to dine with us in the evenings. This request was at first met with a stubborn 'No, not possible' and the suggestion that the whole idea was unthinkable. We persevered with the request on subsequent evenings and gradually the management seemed to change their tune but only as a result of us making ourselves as amenable as possible to them. For example, on the 3rd of our 5 nights stay we were allowed to add an extra guest but only so long as we sat on separate tables even though there was in fact plenty of room for 7 around the bigger table we had been given. There was never any conversation along the lines of 'well if you don't mind squashing up a little, then you're welcome to add another guest...'. It was simply a case of ' our hotel, our rules'. We persevered in the face of this, buying additional bottles of wine and chatting up the management by complimenting their wonderful vintages and the beauty of the region in German introducing the 7th member of the group who happened to be my son working in a ski-hotel locally on his gap year. Eventually there was a thaw in the initial attitude but it seemed like the whole guest / host relationship was the wrong way round. No-one on our side was asking for crazy amounts of flexibility, merely to be allowed to add an additional guest. It kind of spoiled all the other great features of the hotel and excellent service from the waiting staff to be given this kind of treatment. To conclude, my review would have been 5 stars if the score had simply been based on location, cleanliness and facilities. However in the hospitality industry you like to think that the paying customer is in charge (provided their requests are reasonable) and not the other way round.

Excellent place to stay on Motorbike tour

This was a great find, booked last minute during an 18 day trip to tour Italy. Ample parking for motorbikes available in lower ground floor garage. Rooms were a little dated but very spacious and comfortable beds. Nice bathrooms with warm, fluffy towels. The bar area has an outside covered terrace which we spent a couple of hours on watching the world go by & drinking some excellent local wine. Evening meal was available which you had to choose on arrival. Once in the dining room we were delighted with the food we were served! Five courses of superb local dishes, very generous portions and cooked to perfection! Breakfast was equally nice with plenty of choice. We were pleasantly surprised with how reasonably priced it was for what we got too.

    Halt a while

The Bear is a great place to stay whilst walking the Ridgeway. Good service and a wide ranging quantity menu both in the evening and for breakfast. Opt for the inclusive breakfast and you will not be disappointed. The staff could not be more helpful.
